My analysis
The UCLA Bruins had won seven games in a row before losing 83-78 in Illinois on Tuesday. The Bruins have struggled when making cross-country trips in the new Big Ten, going 0-4 SU and 1-3 ATS in four road games at Midwest and East Coast campuses. That said, I think they finally get a win away from the West Coast today.
The Indiana Hoosiers have dropped seven of their last nine contests and snapped a five-game losing streak by upsetting Michigan State in Lansing on Tuesday. However, the Spartans went just 4-for-23 from deep in that game, which had more to do with their shooters going ice-cold than anything Indiana was doing on defense.
Indiana has been wildly inconsistent and looks disjointed on both ends of the floor. Head coach Mike Woodson announced last week that he'll step down at the end of the season, and the talent added through the transfer portal hasn't meshed.
The Hoosiers are just 16th in the Big Ten in adjusted offensive efficiency in conference play while ranking 10th in adjusted defense. They also haven't gotten their usual boost from playing at home, where they've lost each of their last three contests.
This is an Indiana squad that sits outside the Top 250 in 3-point percentage (32%) and has struggled to take care of the ball against teams that apply ball pressure. That's bad news against a UCLA squad that ranks 11th in the country in adjusted defense and forces turnovers at the highest rate in Div. 1 (23.6%).
The Bruins have also made strides on offense and have scored 78+ points in six of their last eight games — particularly impressive given the slow tempo they prefer. With Indiana struggling to defend the pick-and-roll, expect the Bruins to get the buckets they need to pull away.
