It’s do or die for the Calgary Flames. With a win over the Minnesota Wild, the Flames would sit just three back of Minnesota and St. Louis – with a game in hand on both.
If they lose, though, they’d sit five back of St. Louis and six or seven behind Minnesota. Suffice to say, the stakes are high.
My Flames vs. Wild predictions expect the offenses to win out, as has been the case in the two previous matchups this season (16 goals were scored in total).

My Flames pick: Over 5.5 (-115 at BET99)
My Flames analysis
The Calgary Flames are playing for their season. Every game is life or death for them and that urgency is translating into the results.
They have really upped the ante offensively, ranking first in shots on goal and 3rd in scoring chances over the past 10 games. They’re possessing the puck a lot and doing everything they can to test opposing goaltenders.
While they still aren’t lighting up the scoreboard, the volume they’re generating has led to enough goals to keep every game competitive.
The Flames have found the back of the net at least twice in nine of the last 10 and scored three or more in three of the past four games.
They should have plenty of opportunities to build on those numbers against the Minnesota Wild. Minnesota sits 22nd in total shot share over their last 10 and they’ve conceded the 8th most shots on target in that span. They’re not exactly playing stout defense.
Minnesota could need to score in bunches to help compensate for shaky defensive play – much like we saw against San Jose last time out.
There is reason to believe they can do just that. The Wild just got Kirill Kaprizov and Joel Eriksson Ek back in the lineup, which should make a world of difference.
Their offensive numbers with and without Kaprizov this season are night and day. They’ve averaged more than three goals per game with Kaprizov in the lineup compared to 2.46 without.
Kaprizov (and Eriksson Ek) returning makes the Wild’s top-6 very scary and much tougher to slow down on a nightly basis.
Look for both offenses to carry their weight in a competitive, high-stakes matchup.
Flames vs Wild same-game parlay (SGP)
Over 5.5 goals
Jonathan Huberdeau Over 1.5 shots
Joel Eriksson Ek Over 2.5 shots
Jonathan Huberdeau has generated plenty of shots of late, particularly on home soil. He’s recorded multiple shots in eight of his last 10 in Calgary, attempting at least three each time out.
That number has been somewhat of a sweet spot for Huberdeau this season. He has recorded multiple shots in 84% of his home games when recording three attempts or more.
Three attempts should be the floor for Huberdeau in this game. He is routinely logging more than 20 minutes of ice, which is more than enough time to exploit a weak shot suppression team like Minnesota.
Going the other way, Joel Eriksson Ek is a prime player to target. He’s registered at least three shots in nine of his last 10 games and put eight pucks on net while playing 20 minutes in his return to Minnesota’s lineup.
John Hynes is not keeping a leash on Eriksson Ek and will no doubt be relying heavily on his veteran two-way pivot in a game of such importance.
