It’s an all-Canadian matchup tonight at Canada Life Centre when the Winnipeg Jets welcome the Edmonton Oilers.

The clubs opened at nearly identical odds despite Edmonton potentially missing several key players like Leon Draisaitl, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Mattias Ekholm, and Zach Hyman.

That’s a big reason why I’m taking the hosts on the moneyline in my Oilers vs. Jets predictions and NHL picks for Sunday, April 13.

Jets vs Oilers prediction

My Jets pick: Jets moneyline (-106 at Pinnacle)

My Jets analysis
The Winnipeg Jets locked up the top seed in the Western Conference last night with a 5-4 victory against the Blackhawks, extending their win streak to three in the process.

They’ll look to push their win streak to four tonight vs. the Edmonton Oilers, who have struggled with some significant injuries heading into the playoffs.

The Oilers just lost one of their top defensemen, Mattias Ekholm, for an extended period of time and will also be missing Ryan Nugent-Hopkins tonight. The club could also be without the services of both Leon Draisaitl and Zach Hyman, who are still listed as day-to-day.

In short, Edmonton could be without its top point producer in Draisaitl and four of its top six scorers overall. For that reason, it’s a bit surprising that the Oilers (-104) and Jets (-106) sit at nearly identical NHL odds at the time of writing.

A quick start will be key for Winnipeg, as the club is 29-0-3 when leading after the first period. The Jets should have an advantage in the opening 20 minutes as well as they rank fifth in the NHL in first period goal differential (+19), while the Oilers have been slow starters this season (-9).

Jets vs Oilers odds analysis

The Jets opened at -117 with the Oilers at +104 but we’ve seen that distance close ahead of puck drop with the teams at nearly identical odds at most books. However, 69% of Covers bettors were siding with the hosts at the time of writing.

Winnipeg is 7-2 over its last nine games while Edmonton is 5-4 over that same span. The Jets are also 2-0 against the Oilers in their two previous meetings this season.

Tonight’s total opened at 6 goals and betting pushed that number down to 5.5 at some books before puck drop.

Winnipeg’s defense is likely shouldering the load here as the Jets have cashed the Under in eight of their last nine contests while allowing just 1.78 gpg over that span. The Under is also 6-1 in Edmonton’s last seven outings as the team’s offense has taken a hit with Draisaitl and Connor McDavid both missing time.
