Michigan Bowl Game Projections: Music City Bound

The post-Jim Harbaugh hangover is real, but the Michigan Wolverines will still get a bowl game this holiday season. While there are several options, Andrew Caley projects a trip to Nashville for the Music City Bowl against an SEC opponent.

The 2024 Michigan Wolverines are what happens when you turn over almost your entire roster and lose your head coach to the NFL.

The reigning national champions have been out of the College Football Playoff picture and bowl game odds for most of the season and just became bowl-eligible last week. But new headman Sherrone Moore can end his first season in Ann Arbor on a high with a bowl win.

Our Michigan bowl game projection anticipates a date in Nashville against an SEC opponent. Let's break it down below.

Michigan Wolverines season to date

It was apparent early on that the only thing about this Michigan Wolverines team that resembled the natty champ group from a season ago was the uniforms. Texas made that clear by handing the Wolverines an early-season beatdown at the Big House. And despite starting Big Ten play with wins over USC and Minnesota, the Wolverines then lost four of their next five conference games before gaining bowl eligibility with a big 50-6 win over Northwestern.

Michigan Wolverines remaining schedule

@ Ohio State (Sat., Nov. 30): Talk about times changing. Michigan has won The Game the past three seasons but is a 21-point road underdog at The Horseshoe this year. The Wolverines defense will try its best to keep this game close. Still, you can only contain Jeremiah Smith and the Ohio State Buckeyes' dynamic running back duo of Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson for so long. And don’t the struggling Michigan offense to score much in this matchup. It would be a stunner if Michigan won this game.

Music City Bowl

Michigan will likely lose to Ohio State to close out the regular season and finish the year 6-6. Despite this season not going as planned, any bowl with a Big Ten tie-in will be clamoring to get a brand like Michigan into its game.

So, I project Michigan to get a Music City Bowl bid where they will get a marquee matchup against an SEC opponent. Potential candidates are Missouri, South Carolina, or even Mississippi, depending on how things shake out in what was been a crazy season in the SEC, making this one of the better pre-New Year’s Six matchups.

He began at Covers as a news editor and has now done everything under the sun when it comes to content. His work has been seen on TSN, Sportsnet, VSiN, and CBS.

You can also call him Covers’ Sixth Man, as he regularly steps up to guest host Before You Bet and our MLB and NCAAF release shows.

The sportsbook where he does the bulk of his betting is bet365 thanks to its numerous prop betting options and competitive odds. His best advice? Find the balance between the numbers and what you see on the playing field. Then find the best price using multiple books. And don’t ask him where the nickname Taco comes from. It’s not an interesting story. Seriously.
