College Football Parlay Picks for Week 5: Williams and USC Trample Buffaloes

Colorado's going to garner attention wherever it goes this season, but our college football parlay picks have their eyes on the Buffaloes' Week 5 opponents — Caleb Williams and USC — for the best value.

Now that we’re in the heart of college football season, there are plenty of great matchups available for us to bet on every week. But for Week 5, I’m going to look way down the menu at some of the dregs of the BCS for action on Saturday.

I’m looking at teams like the Utah State Aggies and the Arkansas State Red Wolves as having potential value on a busy Saturday. For those who can’t stand mediocre football, don’t worry: I’m looking at the college football odds of a much more appetizing matchup for my same-game parlay pick this weekend.

Keep reading to find out what parlays I’ll be playing this Saturday in my free college football picks for Week 4.

Best college football parlay Week 5

Utah State -5.5

Arkansas State ML

I may live in Connecticut, but I can freely admit that college football isn’t great here in New England. In some years, it’s even arguable that Ivy League teams like the Yale Bulldogs might actually be the most interesting squads in the region. I’m not saying that’s the case this year, but I’m still picking against two northeastern schools on Saturday.

First, there are the woeful Connecticut Huskies. For all that UConn has accomplished in college basketball, it has never been a successful football school, and the Huskies are once again off to an 0-4 start this year. Connecticut has lost by multiple scores in three games, and lost 24-17 at home to the Florida International Panthers as a touchdown favorite.

This week, UConn takes on Utah State, which has only a single win on the year. However, the Aggies have been competitive against competent teams, losing at the Iowa Hawkeyes by just 10 points, and going back and forth with the James Madison Dukes last weekend before dropping a shootout by a 45-38 score. While Utah State isn’t great, it has more than enough talent to cover a 5.5-point spread against Connecticut on Saturday.

Moving up the seaboard a bit, Arkansas State will take on the Massachusetts Minutemen in Amherst this weekend. The 1-4 Minutemen have lost four straight, including close defeats against the Eastern Michigan Eagles and the New Mexico Lobos. UMass is the lowest-ranking FBS team in the Sagarin ratings, ranking 185th in the country — far below Yale, to my previous point.

Arkansas State is also among the weaker FBS teams, ranking 155th in those same Sagarin ratings, but has won its last two games. The Red Wolves even upset the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles last week as a touchdown underdog. I’m predicting a second-straight upset for Arkansas State, who I’m taking on the moneyline to beat Massachusetts outright on Saturday.

Best college football SGP Week 5

USC -21.5

MarShawn Lloyd anytime touchdown

Caleb Williams 325+ passing yards

The story of the 2023 Colorado Buffaloes came back down to Earth a bit last week when the Oregon Ducks took them to the woodshed. However, we can’t underestimate what Coach Prime has accomplished virtually overnight in Boulder, and there’s still going to be plenty of excitement over every Colorado game this year.

That includes this Saturday, when Colorado hosts the USC Trojans in what could be another lopsided loss. USC has been utterly dominant this year, winning every game by multiple possessions. Sure, the Arizona State Sun Devils kept the game closer than expected last week, but the Trojans still put up 42 points and won by two touchdowns.

I fully expect USC to have its way with a Colorado team that will be thoroughly outmatched on both the offensive and defensive lines. I didn’t expect the line to move much off the Oregon game, but realistically, the Trojans should be able to nearly set their score in this one, so I’m happy to give up 21.5 points on Saturday.

Next, since I expect USC to score plenty of points against the porous Buffaloes defense, I’m going to take MarShawn Lloyd to score a touchdown at some point during the game. Lloyd may only have two touchdowns so far this year, but he leads the Trojans with 349 yards and 8.9 yards per carry. Those are massive numbers that should lead to a score at some point, especially if USC jumps out to an early lead.

Finally, I’m predicting that repeat Heisman Trophy odds hopeful Caleb Williams will rip apart the Colorado secondary. Williams already has 1,200 yards in his first four games this year, and that’s even with backup quarterbacks getting a fair number of reps. Williams should be able to put up huge yardage numbers on Saturday, so I’m confident in predicting he’ll get to at least 325 passing yards to round out this SGP.

Since joining Covers in 2022, Ed has offered his sports betting analysis primarily on MLB, NFL, college football, and college basketball games, but is willing to take on any sport.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
