Jets vs Jaguars Predictions and Picks for NFL Week 15

With very little to play for, Ed Scimia believes the key to winning this game will be quarterback play, which is why he gives the edge to the Jets.

Two teams that are far out of the AFC playoff picture will look to pick up a late-season win this weekend as the Jacksonville Jaguars host the New York Jets on Sunday afternoon.

New York has disappointed bettors all season long, but its offense should have enough punch to cover, as I’ll explain in my Jets vs. Jaguars predictions.

Jets vs Jaguars prediction

My best bet
Jets -3.5 (-110 at BetMGM)

My analysis
It’s never easy to handicap a game between two terrible teams late in the season, as issues of motivation are often hard to parse. But in this case, I think we have a clear favorite, as only one of these teams has had a pulse in recent weeks.

The New York Jets have been let down in two ways this year. First, they never got the production they expected out of Aaron Rodgers. Second, they’ve also been disappointed by a mediocre defense that was supposed to be one of the best units in the NFL.

However, Rodgers and the Jets offense have shown signs of life in recent weeks. The output has been by no means great, but New York has averaged 24.7 ppg over the past three games. That production has come against defenses that are far better against the passing game than the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are the worst in the league in yards allowed per passing attempt (7.8) and opposing QB rating (105.9). I see Rodgers having perhaps his best game of the year on Sunday, as he’s still capable of throwing the ball even if he’s nowhere near a superstar anymore.

As for that Jets defense, it’s been better than its scoring figures suggest. New York is allowing just 5.2 yards per play third-best in the NFL and has been above average against both the run and the pass. That’s going to be a problem for Jacksonville, which is averaging just 10.8 ppg over its last four games with Mac Jones primarily behind center.

Just because both teams have 3-10 records doesn’t mean this should be a close game. The Jets are playing better on offense and still have a capable defense – neither of which we can say for the Jaguars. I’m taking New York to cover.

Jets vs Jaguars same-game parlay

Jets -3.5

Over 40.5

Aaron Rodgers Over 231.5 passing yards

The Jets offense should get an opportunity to shine against the Jaguars, and that’s forming the basis of my same-game parlay. Along with taking New York to cover, I’m putting a bet on the Over at a low total of just 40.5 points. Not only are both teams averaging totals higher than that number, I expect the Jets to have little trouble scoring against

Jacksonville and the Jaguars should be able to put up at least a few points against a poor New York defense to get us Over the number.

I’ll also take Rodgers to hit his passing yardage total of 231.5 yards. Rodgers has hit that number in six games this year and gets to face perhaps the weakest pass defense in the league this weekend. Three of the last four quarterbacks to face the Jaguars have gone Over this total, and Rodgers will join them on Sunday.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
