Moneyline analysis
The St. Louis Blues are starting to look like a very scary team as we inch toward the Stanley Cup Playoffs. These two teams met recently on April 12 when the Blues bested the B’s 4-2 in Boston and St. Louis’ offense has erupted in the ensuing week.
Since that game, they've potted 20 total goals in three contests and haven't scored fewer than four times in a game since March 26, a span of 12 games. They are the definition of being "on fire."
The Bruins offense has been quite the opposite of the Blues. In the two games since the last meeting, Boston has four tallies and has netted exactly two goals in five consecutive games, and hasn't gone over three goals in any of its last seven.
The Blues have not only been incredible in the offensive end, but they've gotten some incredible goaltending from Ville Husso and Jordan Binnington. Husso has won his last six straight starts and has only allowed 16 total goals in those games combined. The B’s goaltending has been almost just as good, but they will be relying on Jeremy Swayman heavily due to the injury to Linus Ullmark.
Swayman has put up some strong numbers, but Husso is the better goalie and the Blues have been amazing at home, going 26-9-4. The Blues will keep up the offensive production and Husso will shut down the struggling B’s.
Prediction: Blues ML (-135 at BetMGM)
Over/Under analysis
The last five games have been very disappointing for the Bruins in regards to offensive production. They have only scored 10 total goals, but the most alarming statistic is that they have not scored a power-play goal in their last seven games going 0-25 in that span. Their man-advantage unit has fallen to 14th and is only converting on 21.6% of its chances.
The B’s power-play struggles should continue again tonight against a Blues team that is very strong when down a man, ranking sixth in the league killing off 83.7% of their penalties.
The Blues offense might be firing on all cylinders right now, but the Bruins are not an easy team to score against. The Bruins offense might be a tad inconsistent lately, but the one thing they've been able to rely upon all year long is their play in their own end. The B’s are the fourth-best team in the league at keeping pucks out of their own net, only allowing 2.68 goals against per game.
The Bruins know what they are up against and are aware of their current struggles. They will focus on defense first and do whatever they can to limit St. Louis' chances while hoping to get some lucky bounces offensively. I love the goalie matchup between Husso and Swayman and I feel that those two will keep this game low scoring. I like the Under.
Prediction: Under 6 (-105 at BetMGM)
Best bet
I have watched this Bruins team play a ton this season and over the course of their last five games, they just don’t look complete. It's clear they are missing an offensive spark, which makes sense with David Pastrnak sidelined.
The Blues might not be a sleeper anymore as they are starting to prove they are legit contenders heading into the playoffs. They have basically locked up their first-round opponent — the Minnesota Wild — and now just need to clinch second place in the Central division so they secure home ice.
With the way the Blues are playing right now, I am surprised they are not heavier favorites on home ice. Getting them at this value is almost lucky against a Boston team that is going through a very rough patch, especially on the offensive side of the game.
