Moneyline analysis
The Bruins and Capitals have built up quite the rivalry over the years but it’s been Boston that's gotten the best of the meetings. Dating back to last year's playoffs, the Bruins have won the last six meetings between the two squads.
Boston has put together an incredible run in their last ten games. They are 8-2 in that stretch and their goaltending has been outstanding. Linus Ullmark is getting the nod for the Bruins and he has won his last five straight starts.
In those five games, he has only allowed nine goals. He has gotten a lot of help from his teammates as the Bs are the fourth-best defensive team in the league as they only allow 2.66 goals against per game.
On the other hand, the Capitals are starting to find their game but their goaltending has been nowhere near as strong as the Bruins. Vitek Vanecek is the starter for the Caps today and he has had a strong season in the blue paint, posting a 17-11-5 record this season with a 2.6 GAA and a .911 save percentage.
The Bruins have won both meetings this year, outscoring the Caps 11-6 in those two contests. With the better defensive team and the goaltending edge, I think this is Boston's game to lose, especially with Washington playing for the second time in as many nights.
Back the Bruins to secure two points on the road.
Prediction: Bruins moneyline (-125 at BetMGM)
Over/Under analysis
Both of the meetings this season have been high-scoring. The two games saw a combined 17 goals scored.
However, teams tend to play a bit more defensive this time of year and Boston's defensive play as of late really stands out.
In their last five games, the Bs have only allowed just 11 goals. Ullmark is doing exactly what the team needs from him and this season as a whole he is 23-9-2 with a 2.58 GAA and a .912 save percentage.
The Capitals haven’t been as good offensively this season as we have seen over the last decade. They’re currently averaging 3.25 gpg and are ranked as the 11th-best offensive team in the league. In the defensive end, they rank 13th, only giving up 2.9 goals against per game.
This is a very important game for the Bruins as they are only one point ahead of the Tampa Bay Lightning in the standings.
Ullmark and Vanecek will both have solid games. Boston's defense will be strong, limiting Washington's chances, ultimately keeping this game Under the total.
Prediction: Under 6 (-110 at BetMGM)
Best bet
The Bruins have owned the Capitals in the prior meetings this season and they are playing phenomenal hockey right now. Not having David Pastrnak is a huge loss for them, but with how good they have been defensively, the offense doesn't have to produce at a high level.
The Capitals haven’t kept the puck out of their net, allowing 20 goals in just their last five games. On the flip side, Boston has scored 21 goals in their previous five contests.
The Bruins also have advantages in special teams, boasting better power play and penalty kill units than Washington.
The Bs are on a roll right now and the points matter much more to them. When it's all said and done, they'll be leaving D.C. with a win.
