NHL prop picks and best bets for March 2

Today’s NHL prop picks and best bets

Mikko Rantanen anytime goal (+130 at FanDuel)

The Carolina Hurricanes host the Calgary Flames to kick off the night portion of Saturday’s NHL slate. We are going to fade goaltender Dustin Wolf, who is slated to start between the pipes for Calgary.

Wolf is 1-3-1 over his past five starts with a .887 SV% and 3.22 GAA. In his defense, the Flames’ blueline has struggled.

Over the past two months, Calgary ranks 26th in the league in xGA/60. That brings us to Mikko Rantanen, who just scored against the Buffalo Sabres two games ago amidst the trade rumors.

Despite being a new face in Carolina, Rantanen owns the highest goal mark on the roster.

Seth Jarvis anytime goal (+190 at FanDuel)

I also want to back Rantanen’s teammate, Seth Jarvis, to find the back of the net in this contest. My thinking here is simple: we are guaranteed a profit if either of Rantanen or Jarvis scores, and if both score, all the better.

Rantanen and Jarvis skate together on the first power play unit. This is another good way to attack Calgary, given that it ranks 28th in the league in penalty minutes taken per game and 31st penalty kill percentage.

Finally, Jarvis has scored in three of his past four games against the Flames.

Jack Hughes Over 0.5 PPP (+250 at bet365)

Sticking with the theme of fading poor special teams, we are going to attack the Vegas Golden Knights. They rank 21st in penalty kill percentage this season.

That is good news for the New Jersey Devils, a team that ranks fifth in power play percentage. This success on the man-advantage is a product of Jack Hughes’ brilliance.

Hughes leads the team with 27 power-play points, which is also tied for sixth-best in the entire NHL.

He is starting to catch fire since returning from the 4 Nations Face-Off, and while the Knights possess a strong blue line, the easiest way to attack them is through special teams.
