The New Jersey Devils and Vegas Golden Knights will square off in a marquee matchup between two of the league’s Top 7 teams by goal differential.

My Devils vs. Golden Knights predictions see the road team struggling to stop Mark Stone without its best defender against one of the NHL’s best on home soil.

Let’s break things down further with my NHL picks for Sunday, March 2.

Devils vs Golden Knights prediction

My best bet
Mark Stone Over 0.5 assists (-115 at FanDuel)

My analysis
Mark Stone is an assist machine. He has piled up 35 apples through 45 games, pacing him for 64 over a full schedule.

Bruce Cassidy tested the waters with Stone on the third line to balance the scoring but has since moved him back where he belongs — on the top line with Jack Eichel.

Stone has recorded an impressive 1.38 assists per 60 minutes of 5v5 play with Eichel. He has also been lights on the power play, where he’s tied for 17th in the NHL in assists.

The New Jersey Devils are generally a good defensive team, but they are a more targetable opponent now than usual. Jonas Siegenthaler is one of the best defenders in the league and he is sidelined with a leg injury.

He has missed a month thus far and the Devils’ metrics have dropped off a cliff without him. They rank dead-last in expected goals against (3.20 per 60) since Siegenthaler went down.

The Devils will have a difficult time slowing the Vegas Golden Knights without him. The Golden Knights rank second in expected goals over the last 10 and are one of the best home teams in the NHL, owning a 21-6-3 record in their own building.

Hanging with the Golden Knights is a challenge at the best of times. Playing against them in the latter half of a road back-to-back — without your top defender — is an even taller order.

Stone has an assist in 56% of his games and hasn’t gone more than three straight (his current dry spell) without one all year long.

This is a good spot for him to get back on track.

Devils vs Golden Knights same-game parlay (SGP)

Mark Stone Over 0.5 assists

Jack Eichel anytime goal

Golden Knights moneyline

Jack Eichel hasn’t scored a goal since February 6, which just so happened to come against these same Devils. He has turned into somewhat of a Devils killer of late, scoring in three straight games against them.

The Devils have allowed only 23 goals over the last 10 games but they’ve conceded 35.91 expected goals. Jake Allen is an awesome backup but those numbers are unsustainable for Connor Hellebuyck and the Winnipeg Jets, let alone a team missing its starter in Jacob Markstrom.

At some point the goaltending will come down to earth and teams will start cashing in on more of their opportunities. Eichel is certainly capable of doing just that.

The Devils have struggled stringing wins together, winning back-to-back games only once in 2025. It’ll be tough for them to buck that trend against a rested, dominant Golden Knights team.
