The Montreal Canadiens and Detroit Red Wings finish off a home-and-home set as the teams head to Bell Centre following the Habs’ 4-3 victory on Friday night.

Patrik Laine scored the game-winning goal for Montreal to continue his red-hot December, and my Red Wings vs Canadiens predictions expect him to continue his hot streak.

Canadiens vs Red Wings prediction

My Canadiens pick
Patrik Laine Over 2.5 shots (-125 at BET99)

My Canadiens analysis

Patrik Laine is already up to seven goals in eight games since making his season debut earlier this month, and the Montreal Canadiens forward is showing no signs of slowing down thanks to his wicked shot-and-shoot-first mentality.

The 6-foot-5 winger is averaging just 15:34 of ice time per game as he gets his feet under him, but that hasn’t stopped him from throwing plenty of rubber on the net. Laine is averaging 3.38 shots per game — the 15th-highest mark in the NHL — and he has compiled 15 total attempts and 3+ shots in each of his last three outings.

The Detroit Red Wings rank fifth-last in the NHL in shots against per game (30.6) while also sitting third-last in shot attempts against per game at 5-on-5 according to Natural Stat Trick. With Laine on a heater and scoring in bunches, I expect him to rack up at least another three shots against a weak Red Wings defense.

Canadiens vs Red Wings same-game parlay (SGP)

Patrik Laine Over 2.5 shots

Patrik Laine anytime goal

Over 6

I’m going to stick with the hot hand for my SGP and bank on Laine to pot another goal. The Habs sharpshooter is simply one of the hottest players in the NHL right now, with his seven goals in December tied for fourth-most among all skaters.

Laine has scored all seven of his goals on the power play and Detroit ranks 31st on the penalty kill at an abysmal 67.4%, so he’s got a good shot of cashing in there again.

The Canadiens have seen at least six goals scored in four straight games. Meanwhile, the Red Wings have hit that mark in three straight and four of their last five.
