Canucks vs Capitals Odds, Picks, and Predictions Tonight: Canucks Bounce Back vs. Capitals

After watching a 3-1 lead slip away, the Vancouver Canucks get a chance to redeem themselves 24 hours later. Their opponent, Washington is coming off a 3-0 win vs. Boston, but our NHL picks believe the Caps don't have it in them to knock off elite teams on back-to-back nights.

No rest for the weary, or in this case, the Washington Capitals.

After picking up a win Saturday over the East-leading Boston Bruins – snapping a six-game losing skid – they return home to face off against what should be a surly Vancouver Canucks squad.

The top team in the NHL, Vancouver is coming off an OT loss to the Detroit Red Wings, a game after getting thumped by the Bruins. Still, they’re -160 road favorites in the NHL odds.

Can Washington go back-to-back on the top teams in the NHL? Read below for my free Canucks vs Capitals NHL picks for Sunday, February 11.

Canucks vs Capitals predictions

Not only did the Washington Capitals cover the +1.5 puckline in Boston, but they won outright, putting together one of their best efforts of the season to blank the Bruins 3-0 at TD Garden.

That is just the second shutout Washington has recorded all season, and it comes at a time when they had been bleeding goals, 3.33 per game over their last six.

A team that usually has their goalie peppered to the tune of 30.5 shots per game (T-12th), Washington’s defense held up, as Charlie Lindgren needed to make 18 stops to record the shutout.

Offensively, the three-goal effort felt like a scoring bonanza, as it’s just the third time in the last 10 games the Capitals have tallied at least three goals in a game.

That might be a problem against the Vancouver Canucks, who enter Sunday as the NHL’s top-scoring team, pumping in 3.68 goals per contest.

However, Vancouver hasn’t been playing their best hockey since coming out of the All-Star break. They did beat Carolina to open, then got thumped 4-0 in Boston, before Saturday’s stinker.

The Canucks watched a 3-1 lead built through 40 minutes evaporate in the final frame, as the Detroit Red Wings tied it in the third, before Jake Walman’s penalty shot less than 30 seconds into extra time ended it, resulting in Vancouver’s 4-3 OT loss.

It’s only the second time this season the Canucks have surrendered four goals or more in back-to-back games.

This will be the first of two regular-season meetings between these clubs, and with the Caps winning each of the last three head-to-heads,

Both teams will be playing the second night of a back-to-back, where the Canucks are 3-2-1 in six games. Washington will be playing its 11th game on consecutive nights. They started gangbusters with six straight wins, but have gone 0-3-1 since.

Vancouver hasn’t had three losses in a row all season. I don’t think that trend starts Sunday.

My best bet: Canucks moneyline (-160 at SIA)

Canucks vs Capitals same-game parlay

Canucks moneyline

JT Miller anytime goal

Alex Ovechkin anytime goal

Alex Ovechkin potted an empty-netter last game against the Bruins, giving the Russian goals in each of his last four contests.

While all good things must come to an end, it’s hard to not consider him in an SGP here, as he’s feasted on Vancouver of late.

Ovie had two goals apiece in two games against the Canucks last year and has five goals in the last four games against Vancouver overall.

I’m all for Ovechkin continuing his season-long goal streak at home on Sunday.

On the Canucks side, forward JT Miller has been consistently showing up against the Capitals. He has points in seven straight games against Washington, tallying three goals and seven assists over that stretch.

With just one goal in three games since the all-star break, look for Miller to play a more prominent role against the Capitals.

Canucks vs Capitals moneyline and Over/Under analysis

The moneyline odds have lengthened to a high of Vancouver listed as -175 road favorites. On the other end of the wagers, Washington has been as long as +140 underdogs.

Washington has dominated this head-to-head of late, winning seven of the last 10.

As for the total, the top-scoring team in the NHL could have been wagered on with a total goals of 5.5.

It’s moved back to six and above, though no books have ventured into the seven-goal range.

The Canucks are crushing Overs, boasting an impressive mark of 29-19-3, while the Capitals have seen the Over go 20-27-2 in their games this season.

The Over has hit in three of the last four Vancouver vs Washington matchups.
