The New York Rangers and Vancouver Canucks had very similar night’s on Monday, but they had the complete opposite result.
New York is coming off of what might have been its biggest win of the entire season on Monday night, defeating the Calgary Flames 5-4 thanks to an overtime goal from Alexis Lafreniere.
Vancouver had an incredible comeback on Monday night against the New Jersey Devils but wasn't able to complete the comeback — adding on to its road woes — and I don’t love its chances in this battle.

Canucks vs Rangers picks and predictions
The New York Rangers may have had a season changing win on Monday night. Mika Zibanejad and Filip Chytil each tallied two goals, Jacob Trouba had two fights, and Alexis Lafreniere scored his biggest goal of the season.
Chytil and the kid line consisting of Lafreniere and Kaapo Kakko have been on absolute fire in their last five games, with a combined 16 points in that span.
The Vancouver Canucks have been a mess in the defensive end, allowing 3.94 goals against per game which is the second most in the NHL. Spencer Martin is expected to get the nod tonight for Vancouver, but this season hasn’t been very kind to him. Coming into this game, Martin has a record of 11-13-1 with a .875 SV% and a 3.94 GAA.
Igor Shesterkin will be back in goal after returning from his first All-Star appearance. Shesterkin has been getting back to his best game as the season has continued, boasting a .918 SV% and a 2.45 GAA to go with a +17.3 goals saved above expected.
The Rangers should be feeling pretty good coming into this game and their power play looked very strong on Monday night. Their forwards should be able to take advantage of a weaker Vancouver blue line. I don’t take the puck line often, but I have a good feeling New York will cover it tonight.
My best bet: Rangers -1.5 (+105 at BetMGM)

Canucks vs Rangers moneyline analysis
It seems New York is always at its best when Zibanejad is playing well and he is coming off of a three point performance, tallying two goals and one assist. He has four goals and two assists in his last five games, and “Mika March” is right around the corner which is when he usually elevates his game.
The Rangers have had a lot of success against the Western conference this season, going 8-0 in their last eight games against west coast opponents.
New York is the much better defensive team in this matchup, standing as the third best defensive team in the league — allowing just 2.62 goals against — which makes you think that the Canucks offense will have to face some adversity on the road.
The Rangers are 14-9-4 at Madison Square Garden and Vancouver has struggled as the away team recently. This is New York's game to lose.
Canucks vs Rangers Over/Under analysis
Whenever Igor Shesterkin is in goal I am always a little more temped to take an Under and that will be the case for this game as well. He has had his two days to rest after the All-Star break, so he should be feeling relatively fresh.
The Rangers have looked strong offensively as of late, but Vancouver is certainly going to put up a fight. The Canucks can score goals as well, but they will be tested against a very strong Ranger blue line and penalty kill.
New York is skating to a 2.9 xGA/60 and Vancouver is at a 3.16 xGA/60. I’m not saying we won’t see some goals in this game, but I don’t think there will be more than six.
