The Edmonton Oilers and Anaheim Ducks face off in a Pacific Division matchup on Sunday night.

Anaheim started off the season strong at 7-4-0 in its first 11 games. Since then, however, the Ducks have gone 2-7-0 and have lost five straight.

With that said, the Ducks are still above Connor McDavid & Co. in the standings. The Oilers replaced their head coach after a horrid start and just ended a three-game losing streak with a 5-0 win in Washington.

Can the Oilers keep up their form as they return home or will the Ducks spoil Edmonton’s party? Read on for our Ducks vs. Oilers NHL picks and predictions.

Ducks vs Oilers odds

Ducks vs Oilers predictions

Edmonton Oilers defenseman Evan Bouchard has quietly established himself as a top blueliner around the NHL. He has 19 points in as many games this season and is currently riding a five-game point streak.

Bouchard finished last season on a tear. He put up 19 points in his final 19 regular-season games and then ramped things up in the playoffs with 17 points in 12 postseason games.

The right-handed defenseman hasn’t missed a beat playing on the top pair and power-play unit. He gets plenty of chances to shine and shine he has.

Bouchard scored a power-play goal on Friday night in Washington as one of three Oilers goals on the man advantage.

"Getting three power-play goals and the passes and the plays that they were making, it looks like they're kind of out of that funk," Edmonton coach Kris Knoblauch said of the top unit.

The Anaheim Ducks, on the other hand, allowed two power-play goals on five chances against the Kings on Friday night. They’re in the middle of the pack in terms of penalty kill on the season.

The Oilers are huge NHL odds favorites at home so it’s hard to back them with so much juice. Their Over 3.5 team total is even at -190, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. They’re expected to score at least four goals and it’s safe to assume Bouchard will get in on the action.

Along with Bouchard’s current five-game point streak, he has points in 14 of 19 games this season. He’s recording a point in 73.68% of games and his odds of -165 to do so against the Ducks imply just a 62.26% probability.

My best bet: Evan Bouchard to record a point (-165 at SIA)

Ducks vs Oilers same-game parlay

Ducks +2.5

Under 6.5

First-period Over 1.5

The Ducks have been able to keep most of their games close this season. They've had a handful of third-period comebacks and have come up just shy in several other games as well.

Overall, the Ducks have lost 11 games this season and only four of them were by more than two goals. Anaheim has fought to the finish in one- or two-goal games against the likes of Dallas, Boston, and Florida — three Stanley Cup hopefuls.

After that, we’re going with the Under 6.5.  John Gibson has been solid in net this season for the Ducks with a 2.64 GAA and .914 SV% despite a 4-8-0 record.

While the Oilers have had more than their fair share of issues in the crease, the Ducks don’t exactly have the talent to pile up the goals — even if Mason McTavish is having a breakout season.

With the Ducks +2.5 and Under 6.5 getting us to +180, we're going to add a negatively correlated leg of Over 1.5 goals in the first period to get all the way up to +473.

The Oilers lead the league with 27 first-period goals this season. Unfortunately, they've scored just 30 in the second and third periods. Edmonton has also allowed a decent amount of first-period goals with 23 in 19 games — sixth most in the league.

Ducks vs Oilers moneyline and Over/Under analysis

The Oilers are huge home favorites against the Ducks. They opened at -265 and are now between -250 and -275. In turn, the Ducks are between +200 and +220 underdogs after opening at +215.

Edmonton has been an enigma this season so it’s hard to bet on them as such big favorites. Meanwhile, Anaheim has found ways to win multiple times as big underdogs. They’re 5-8 as underdogs of +150 or more — including 2-4 as underdogs of +200 or more.

The total opened at 6.5 but has moved to an even 7 at some books. You can get Over 6.5 (-135) and Under 6.5 (+110) at Sports Interaction.

It’s hard to bet a total in Oilers games this season given their inconsistent nature. Having said that, I’d take the Under 6.5 at plus money.
