The Calgary Flames dropped the first two games of their four-game home stand against high-tier teams in the Colorado Avalanche and Toronto Maple Leafs.
Saturday night offers a step down in competition against the Seattle Kraken, who’ve won just 23 of 56 games.
My Kraken vs. Flames predictions expect the home team to rebound with Blake Coleman playing a pivotal role in doing so.
Let’s dive deeper into my NHL picks for Saturday, February 8.
Flames vs Kraken prediction
My Flames pick
Blake Coleman Over 2.5 shots (+115 at BET99)
My Flames analysis
Blake Coleman has shot the puck very efficiently of late. He’s registered three shots or more in seven of his past 10 games, with two of the three failures coming against teams sitting Top 10 in the standings.
The Seattle Kraken are very far from that. They sit 28th in points and their very mediocre defensive numbers are only getting worse.
They have allowed the 7th most shots on goal over the past 10 games and rank 23rd in shot share.
A lot of the volume they’ve conceded has come against opposing wingers. Only the Montreal Canadiens have allowed more shots to wingers spanning the last 10.
Coleman faced the Kraken in the midst of his hot streak and was able to take advantage of the matchup, recording three shots on a healthy six attempts.
Coleman is very good at picking his spots and takes a lot of his shots from in tight, meaning a higher percentage hit the net than most players.
That’s why he has cleared 2.5 shots in 91% of games in which he’s attempted at least five shots.
Coleman has generated five attempts or more in six of his past seven games, meaning this spike in shots on goal is not just smoke and mirrors. He’s getting more shooting opportunities and taking full advantage of them.
The Coleman-Backlund-Coronato line has helped the Calgary Flames control 55% of the shot share, which is a very high rate.
They should continue to tilt the ice against a weak Kraken team, allowing for plenty of shooting opportunities along the way.
Flames vs Kraken same-game parlay (SGP)
Blake Coleman has very drastic home/road splits. He has hit the scoresheet in 52% of his games in Calgary compared to just 28% on the road.
He has consistently produced at home for quite some time, recording 14 points over the last 17 games in Calgary. He is in a good spot to build on that production against a Kraken team that slots 24th in goals against per game.
The Flames have dropped three straight on home soil yet still own a very strong record in Calgary this season (16-10-3).
Conversely, the Kraken have only won 10 of 25 road games this season and have picked up just three road wins spanning the past two months.
