Flyers vs Sabres Odds, Picks, and Predictions Tonight: Philly Gets Even in Rematch

The Flyers and Sabres face off tonight, just two days after Buffalo won 5-2 in Philadelphia in a coin-flip game in the NHL odds.

The Flyers started the season strong with wins in three of their first four. However, they haven't been getting the results despite solid efforts in a 1-4-1 stretch since then, including a three-game losing streak.

Things have been going a bit differently in Buffalo. The Sabres have won three of their past four after starting the season 2-3-1.

Who will take home two points in this Eastern Conference matchup? Read on for our Flyers vs. Sabres NHL picks and predictions.

Flyers vs Sabres odds

Flyers vs Sabres predictions

The Flyers may have suffered their third straight defeat on Wednesday night but it wasn’t for a lack of effort. They outshot the Sabres 40-15 in the game with an expected goal differential of 3.21 - 2.09 (2.15 - 1.12 at 5-on-5).

Unfortunately, Carter Hart left the game in the first period with a middle-body injury and is unlikely to play on Friday night. Sam Ersson allowed two goals on nine shots in relief of Hart. The Swedish goalie has allowed 14 goals on 59 shots this season (.763 SV%).

One of the bright spots this season for the Flyers has been Travis Sanheim. The veteran defenseman is thriving on the top pair with Cam York.

"We're still generating those chances so we've just got to stay with it," he said after Wednesday’s loss.

"[We'll] try to stay positive as best that we can and hope that things are going to turn here and eventually those bounces are going to start going in. You put 40 shots up in a game, you're probably going to score more than two goals most nights."

The Flyers are bound to get some better luck on Friday night. John Tortorella’s team won’t fold in the face of adversity. If anything, they’ll bounce back stronger.

Philadelphia has consistently outplayed its opponents this season, even if the record doesn't show it. The Flyers have the seventh-best xGF% (54.89%) in the league while Buffalo has the 12th-worst (47.81%).

It’s tough to beat a team twice in a row and it’s even more tough when it’s a team like the Flyers. This is a great price on a Philadelphia squad that just outplayed Buffalo a few nights ago.

Flyers vs Sabres same-game parlay

Flyers +1.5

First Period Over 1.5

Under 7.5

The Flyers are great value on the moneyline and the puck line is an even safer leg to start the parlay. Three of the last five Flyers losses were by one goal and these are two teams that know each other pretty well after Wednesday night, so we could be looking past regulation here.

These are also two teams that like to get the scoring started early. They were tied 2-2 after 20 minutes of play on Wednesday and that’s not out of the ordinary for either squad.

The Flyers lead the league with 15 first-period goals while allowing 11 in 10 games. The Sabres have scored 12 while also allowing 11 in their first 10 contests.

Things may slow down a bit after the opening frame, though.

Wednesday night's game had no scoring in the second period before the Sabres pulled away in the final frame. The Flyers were the better team in that third period and that should carry over into tonight's game.

Flyers vs Sabres moneyline and Over/Under analysis

The Sabres opened as high as -215 on Kambi books with the Flyers up at +175. The market quickly reacted to that and Buffalo is now between -178 at FanDuel and -190 at Caesars. In turn, the Flyers are up to +158 at Caesars and around +150 across the board.

Keep an eye out on the Flyers’ starting goalie announcement. They recalled Cal Petersen from the AHL on Thursday so it’s likely that Hart will have to miss the game. Neither Ersson or Petersen have much of an edge in that battle.

The total for this game is a bit more interesting. It's either at 6.5 with the Over heavily favored or at 7 with the Under heavily favored.

For my money, I'd go with the Under 6.5 at +110 via FanDuel on the total. The Flyers should play more defensively in front of their second (or third) string goalie.
