The Vegas Golden Knights have had a bit of a rough stretch lately, going 1-4-1 in their last six games, largely due to their lack of offensive production. In these six games, they’ve only scored 14 goals, but have been right in the middle of the pack this season, averaging 3.16 per game.
The Rangers are a much healthier team right now and have had a pretty good stretch lately, not perfect, but not bad. The line of Alexis Lafreniere, Kaapo Kakko, and Filip Chytil, better known as “The Kid Line” continues to be reliable for them.
The matchup in nets will most likely be Igor Shesterkin vs. Logan Thompson. Thompson has one win in his last six starts and his numbers have started to drop just a bit. He enters this game with a .912 save percentage and a 2.71 goals-against average. He will be slightly outmatched by his counterpart tonight in Shesterkin, who boasts a .918 save percentage with a 2.45 GAA — the Rangers certainly have the edge in goal.
With the Golden Knights missing some key players from their lineup like Mark Stone and Shea Theodore, I think the Rangers can take advantage of a slumping Vegas team on home ice and in regulation.

The Golden Knights are currently in the middle of a slump and their best players simply aren’t producing. Jack Eichel has one point in his last six games and Chandler Stephenson has three points in his last eight games. With these guys struggling to score goals, it effects the entire lineup and I have to imagine their scoring slump won’t break against Igor Shesterkin.
The Rangers happen to be a very strong defensive team; they have fifth-best goals against average, only allowing 2.63 goals against per game and 11 goals in their last five games. Their offense isn’t necessarily thriving right now either, only scoring 13 goals in their last five games, but they have been excellent at generating scoring chances, skating to a 3.25 xGF/60.
This feels like a game that the Rangers should dominate on home ice. Vegas’ vibes aren’t very high right now and the Rangers should be feeling pretty good about themselves. I like the Rangers to win.
