A Central Division matchup gets underway this afternoon, with the Chicago Blackhawks hosting the Winnipeg Jets at the United Center.

Winnipeg broke its four-game losing streak with a 3-2 overtime victory over the Sabres on Thursday night, and my Jets vs. Blackhawks predictions believe they'll collect another win on Saturday. Read on for my NHL picks for Saturday, December 7.

My Jets analysis
It was a busy news week in the NHL, including the Chicago Blackhawks’ firing of head coach Luke Richardson. While the move makes sense, it won’t solve Chicago’s short-term issues. This is still one of the worst teams in hockey.

Offensively, this team lacks scoring depth, especially when you factor in that Connor Bedard has struggled in the finishing department this season. Subsequently, the Hawks rank last in xGF/60. Not that things are much better in the defensive zone, either. Chicago surrenders high-danger scoring chances at a high rate, ranking 26th in xGA/60.

Backing up this team is goaltender Petr Mrazek, who's expected to start in net on Saturday. He's starting to struggle to deal with the product in front of him, posting an 0-3 record with a .868 SV% and a 4.05 GAA over his past three starts.

Meanwhile, reigning Vezina Trophy winner Connor Hellebuyck is starting across the ice for the Winnipeg Jets. He continues to cement himself as the best goaltender in the world, boasting a 16-5 record with a .927 SV% and 2.14 GAA.

Goaltending is just one of the many advantages for Winnipeg in this matchup, considering it outranks Chicago in xGF/60, xGA/60 and expected goal differential per 60 minutes.

Finally, I believe there's more value in the puck line than the moneyline, considering seven of Chicago's past 10 losses have come by 2+ goals.

Jets vs Blackhawks Odds analysis

Winnipeg opened as a -191 favorite and remains at that price at the time of writing. The total opened at 6 with the juice toward the Under. I think it's certainly possible to see the market bet this down to 5.5, considering Hellebuyck is going against a struggling Chicago offense.
