Moneyline analysis
The Winnipeg Jets might be missing some key pieces from their lineup tonight with Blake Wheeler unlikely to play and Mark Scheifele already ruled out. They are two of the Jets' Top 5 leading scorers, so Winnipeg will need some role players to step up tonight. The Jets haven’t been very good of late as they are 1-3-1 in their last five games, but they are coming off of a huge win yesterday against the Ottawa Senators. Kyle Connor and Pierre-Luc Dubois each tallied power-play goals and they are the two players that the Jets will lean on most for offensive production in Wheeler's and Scheifele's absences.
The Montreal Canadiens have had the extra day of rest over Winnipeg, but this season hasn't been pretty for the Habs. The Canadiens have a ton of concern in goal right now as Carey Price and Jake Allen are both injured so the Habs will be starting Samuel Montembeault. Montembeault has had plenty of appearances this season, but he hasn’t had much success. He is 7-14-6 on the season with a 3.61 GAA and a .896 save percentage. Tonight will be his first start since March 27.
The Jets should be able to outplay the Canadiens in the offensive zone since Montreal is a very poor defensive team, allowing the fourth-most chances against per game at 11.93. Even with Wheeler and Scheifele out, the Jets are still a force on offense, especially with Connor, who has 42 goals and 42 assists in 70 games.
The Canadiens are the second-worst defensive team in the league, allowing 3.79 goals against per game. The last time these two teams met the Jets scored eight goals and I love their chances on the road tonight with their backs completely against the wall.

Over/Under analysis
Both teams will be starting backup goaltenders tonight, so I am expecting more goals than usual. For the Jets, Eric Comrie will be getting his 13th start of the season tonight. Comrie is 8-3-1 with a 2.68 GAA and a .912 save percentage along with a 5.4 GSAx, which ranks 17th amongst goalies.
Montembeault has a -10.7 GSAx, ranking 105th, so the Jets have the advantage between the pipes. That being said, both teams are capable of scoring goals and I am expecting to see some tonight.
In their previous five games, the Jets have scored 14 goals and have allowed 21. In this same span, the Canadiens have scored 16 goals and allowed 21. Both teams are very weak defensively. Winnipeg’s power-play has scored in two straight games and they should be able to convert again tonight as the Canadiens have the fifth-worst penalty kill unit, only killing off 74.7% of the penalties they commit.
I'm not expecting very strong performances from either goaltender, Montreal isn't the best offensive team, but the Canadiens have shown some spurts throughout the season.
Prediction: Over 6.5 (-120 at BetMGM)
Best bet
Even though the Jets are playing for the second night in a row, I really like how they match up against Montreal, especially in the special teams department. Comrie has been the much better goaltender and the Jets are the overall superior offensive team.
One thing stats can't measure is desperation and that is exactly what the Jets are playing with right now. On paper, the Winnipeg should be considered a playoff team, but the Jets haven’t performed well enough to be one to date. They are in must-win mode, especially against the weaker teams in the league.
I think Connor and Dubois step up once again, like they did last night in Ottawa, and lead this team to a road victory.
