A couple of Canadian rivals will collide for the first time this season when the Edmonton Oilers welcome the Winnipeg Jets to Rogers Place. Both clubs will look to turn things around after getting off to slow starts with just one win through four games, with NHL odds labeling the Oilers as home favorites.
Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl have historically dominated this matchup, putting up some of the best numbers in the league against Winnipeg. Will the Edmonton duo provide some value in their NHL player props markets?
I'll discuss in my Jets vs. Oilers NHL picks for Saturday, October 21.
Jets vs Oilers odds
Jets vs Oilers predictions
It’s been a slow start to the season for the Edmonton Oilers as they’ve picked up just one win through their first four games despite having a pretty easy schedule.
Connor McDavid has also gotten off to a bit of a slow start — at least by his lofty standards — with just two goals and six points through four contests... but tonight’s meeting against the Winnipeg Jets presents a great opportunity for the Oilers captain to boost his totals.
McDavid has posted a staggering 51 points against Winnipeg in just 29 meetings — good for 1.76 points per game. Only Tyler Seguin (53 points) has put up more points vs. Winnipeg since the franchise relocated in 2011-12. McDavid has recorded multiple points in 12 of his last 16 games against the Jets, so you can see why his numbers against them are so good.
Winnipeg has been one of the NHL’s worst defensive teams so far this season, giving up 4.75 goals per game — the second-worst mark behind only Carolina (4.80 GAPG). That said, I’ll be banking on McDavid to put up another multi-point outing against the Jets as my best bet in this one.
My best bet: McDavid Over 1.5 points (-142 at SIA)

Jets vs Oilers same-game parlay
I'm not able to take McDavid for multiple points in the same-game parlay so I’ll swap that for a Leon Draisaitl goal — a pretty good option considering the Oilers sniper has 22 goals in 30 career games against the Jets.
I'm also taking Edmonton on the moneyline while banking on the hosts to score Over 4.5 goals en route to the win. Considering how weak Winnipeg has been on the defensive side of the puck to start the year, I think this could be a good opportunity for the Oilers to run up the score and build some confidence on home ice.

Jets vs Oilers moneyline and Over/Under analysis
The Oilers skate into tonight’s matchup as the clear favorite at -171 on the moneyline, and I’ll have to side with the oddsmakers in this one.
McDavid and Draisaitl haven’t quite been at their best to start the season but have still combined for 13 points through four games. Meanwhile, the Jets are led by Mark Scheifele, who tops the club with just five points. Edmonton’s star power and superior depth should give them the offensive edge.
Connor Hellebuyck, Winnipeg’s likely starter, should normally give the Jets an edge in net but he’s carrying a lowly .843 SV% and 4.38 GAA... which doesn’t inspire much confidence.
The total opened at 6.5 goals and I think the Over is the easy play here. The Jets are giving out goals like candy on Halloween and the Oilers have more than enough firepower to capitalize on that.
These clubs have cashed the Over in five of their last eight head-to-head meetings, while the Over is also 4-0 in Winnipeg’s last four games after allowing five goals or more in the previous contest.
