My analysis
Philadelphia Flyers winger Matvei Michkov has endured some hot and cold stretches throughout his rookie season.
He started the year on a point-per-game pace through his first 27 games but had just nine in his next 28. It was clear he could use some time off heading into the 4 Nations Face-Off break and he’s come out of the gate red hot.
Michkov has 10 points and 27 shots on goal in the Flyers’ six games since the break. On Thursday night, he scored his team’s lone goal to spoil Eric Comrie’s shutout bid in the third period. While the 10 points are impressive, those 27 shots are also important.
He had at least three shots in seven straight games before being limited to two against the Jets. It wasn’t for a lack of trying, though, as he had six total shot attempts in the game.
The Seattle Kraken are struggling, and Michkov is looking to end the season the right way. That includes getting the puck on net and making things happen. Look for him to get 3+ SOG and potentially ladder that up as he’s had four, seven, five, three, six, and two SOG in his last six games.
