Maple Leafs vs Canucks Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight's NHL Game

The Toronto Maple Leafs and the Vancouver Canucks have some losses that they would like to shake off and it's Auston Matthews and Co. that may have the advantage to walk away with the victory tonight.

We’ve got a busy NHL betting slate tonight with 15 games on tap, including an All-Canadian clash between the Vancouver Canucks and Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotia Bank Arena.

Auston Matthews is heating up with three goals in four games since returning to the lineup. I think he will continue the course and find the back of the net once again tonight.

Maple Leafs vs Canucks prediction

My Leafs pick
Auston Matthews anytime goal (-155 at Sports Interaction)

My Leafs analysis

Both teams are coming off losses to the Carolina Hurricanes. The Toronto Maple Leafs had their five-game winning streak snapped by Carolina Thursday night; meanwhile, the Vancouver Canucks were blanked 2-0 by the Canes last night as both teams will look to get back in the win column.

Victories have been hard to come by for the Canucks lately, as the team has struggled mightily with just two wins in their last 10 games, averaging just 2.2 goals per game over that stretch while allowing 3.4 against, which is the fifth-highest mark in the league.

The Maple Leafs return to Scotia Bank Arena, where they’ve been a fairly dominant team this season with a league-high 17 wins on home ice. With the Canucks already struggling and on the second leg of a back-to-back, I like Toronto to claim victory tonight and should get a big bounce-back performance from the top line after a poor effort against Carolina the other night.

Auston Matthews scored in that game but finished a -6. He should be motivated to put forward a much better performance tonight, which is why I’m taking an Auston Matthews anytime goal as my best bet of the night.

He’s heating up again with at least one goal in three of the four games since returning to the lineup. Matthews also has had a lot of success against Vancouver in the past with 18 goals in 23 career meetings against the Canucks.

The three-time goal-scoring champion is still 4% under his career average in terms of shooting percentage. Couple that with the Canucks team save percentage ranking 27th in the NHL (.885), there’s a good chance that Matthews’ shooting bender continues and he finds one to drop tonight.

Maple Leafs vs Canucks same-game parlay (SGP)

Auston Matthews anytime goal

Auston Matthews 3+ shots

Leafs first to score

For the first leg of the SGP, we’ll stick with the best bet and take Auston Matthews to score an anytime goal tonight.

We’ll keep rolling with the Auston Matthews prop train in today’s SGP, let’s take him to record 3+ shots on net tonight. He’s had a couple of low-shooting games in a row, but that’s not the norm. After chewing on six minus’, I get the sense we’ll see a motivated Matthews tonight who will look to shoot early and often. He’s also hit this total in each of his last 10 games against Vancouver and is averaging four shots on goal per game on the season.

For the final leg of our SGP, let's roll with the Leafs to score the first goal of the hockey game. This is more of a fade play on Vancouver, who has struggled to score in general lately but has only scored the opening goal 17 times in 41 games (41%).
