It has been a horrific start to the season for the Anaheim Ducks as they are currently amidst a seven-game losing streak.

Luckily for them, they are facing a Toronto Maple Leafs team that is currently on a three-game losing streak and now playing for the second time in as many days.

The Maple Leafs fell short last night to the Los Angeles Kings, losing 4-2 in what was a pretty well-played game. Toronto is 0-2-1 on their west coast road trip with this matchup being the final game before they head home.

Will the Leafs end their trip on a positive note or can Anaham get out of their funk? Read our NHL betting picks and predictions below to find out.

Maple Leafs vs Ducks picks and predictions

The Anaheim Ducks might be 1-6-1, but they do happen to be 1-1-0 on home ice where they haven’t played many games thus far this season. There is no denying the fact that the Ducks are struggling right now, but luckily for them, the Toronto Maple Leafs are notorious for playing down to the level of their opponent.

The Leafs suffered an ugly loss at home earlier this season against the Coyotes and we could see a similar type of game tonight in Anaheim. The Leafs are 100% the better hockey team, but they are also struggling right now.

Toronto has lost three straight games and has been outshot in all three of those contests. The Leafs have a league-worst -6.23 goals for above expected, so this has the potential to be a game that John Gibson can steal for the Ducks.

Gibson’s numbers haven’t been pretty as he is skating to a 1-5-1 record with a .884 save percentage and a 4.45 goals against average, but Erik Kallgren will be the starter for the Leafs and his start hasn’t been all that much better.

Kallgren is 0-1-1 with a .857 SV% and a 3.50 GAA along with a -1.4 GSAx. Toronto hasn’t been as elite offensively as we’re used to seeing in years past. Right now, the Leafs rank 28th offensively, only scoring 2.67 goals per game and they have only scored six goals during this three-game losing streak.

The Maple Leafs have been traveling all week and this is their fourth game in seven nights while the Ducks are a little more rested and back on home ice for only the third time this season.

This is an opportunity for the Ducks to get back in the win column and I love them in this spot as a home underdog.

Maple Leafs vs Ducks moneyline analysis

Erik Kallgren didn’t play all that well in his previous start against the San Jose Sharks, allowing four goals on 31 shots with a .871 SV% for the game.

John Gibson happens to be a very good goaltender despite what we’ve seen so far this season, but he is going to need some help from the offense. The Ducks have only scored three goals in their last three games and they need some more production from their top players.

Troy Terry has looked good so far this season with four goals and five assists in nine games, but Trevor Zegras needs to get going a little more. These two are the key focus of the game tonight as they are going up against a talented Maple Leafs team.

There should be some extra motivation for Terry and Zegras tonight as they try to out-skill Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner.

Speaking of Matthews and Marner, they aren’t necessarily tearing it up right now. Auston Matthews only has two goals and five assists in seven games, while Marner also has two goals himself.

The Maple Leafs are far from buzzing right now and players are always fired up when they come to town. I think the Leafs might be a little overvalued in this game and I expect to see a desperate Anaheim Ducks group that is looking to end their losing streak tonight.

Maple Leafs vs Ducks Over/Under analysis

These two teams have been struggling offensively as of late, but this matchup features two goaltenders that are currently riding the struggle bus. Erik Kallgren and John Gibson have each given up eight goals in their last two starts, so it's safe to say that neither of them is feeling very confident right now.

There is a ton of offensive talent on both teams tonight as I previously mentioned and I expect that talent to steal the show tonight and provide some scoring.

I don’t trust either of these netminders and both of these teams are capable of scoring goals, so I’m rolling with the Over here.
