The Edmonton Oilers will aim to set a franchise record with their 10th straight win when they head to Bell Centre to take on the Montreal Canadiens in tonight's NHL odds.
Connor McDavid has led the way with a team-high 15 points during the nine-game win streak, while goaltender Stuart Skinner has been nearly unbeatable during the run.
Find out if McDavid and Skinner can carry Edmonton to a franchise record in my Oilers vs Canucks NHL picks and predictions for Saturday, January 13.
Oilers vs Canadiens odds
Oilers vs Canadiens predictions
The Edmonton Oilers eked out their second straight one-goal win on Thursday to extend their streak to nine games, this time defeating the Red Wings 3-2 in overtime thanks to a game-winning goal from Darnell Nurse.
Connor McDavid scored a highlight reel goal in the win to extend his point streak to nine games as he’s picked up a team-leading 15 total points through the Oilers’ win streak. I’m expecting the Edmonton captain to come through with a multi-point outing against the Montreal Canadiens tonight.
After a slow start to his campaign, McDavid has arguably been the best player in the league once again since mid-November. He’s collected 46 points in 25 games since November 13, just six points back of Nathan MacKinnon for the top spot over that span, while his 1.84 points per game edge out MacKinnon for first in the NHL.
McDavid has notched 13 multi-point outings in 25 games during that stretch and should be poised for another against a Canadiens team that has dropped six of its last eight outings.
Montreal has allowed at least four goals against in five of its last 10 games, while Edmonton has scored 4.11 goals per contest during its nine-game win streak. With the Oilers poised for another potentially high-scoring performance, McDavid should factor on at least a couple of their goals.
My best bet: Connor McDavid Over 1.5 points (-120 at SIA)

Oilers vs Canadiens same-game parlay
There’s no multi-point wager available for the Oilers captain in the SGP so we’ll shift over to a goal for both McDavid and Zach Hyman, as well as taking the Over on 3.5 goals for Edmonton.
McDavid has scored in two straight games and four of his last six outings, while Hyman leads Edmonton with 26 goals this season, having tallied eight times in his last eight contests.
The Oilers have scored at least four goals in five of their last nine contests, while the Canadiens own one of the league’s worst defenses this season at 3.39 goals against per game.

Oilers vs Canadiens moneyline and Over/Under analysis
The Oilers come into tonight’s matchup as the huge road favorite, opening at -219 on the moneyline with the total set at 6.5 goals. Edmonton has shifted to an even stronger favorite at most books, coming in as high as -275, but I can’t find much reason to go against the grain in this game.
Edmonton has been an exceptionally streaky team this season, thanks in large part to inconsistent goaltending. Fortunately for the Oilers, Stuart Skinner is playing his best hockey of the season between the pipes right now — a big reason why they have rattled off nine straight wins.
Skinner owns an impressive .950 SV% and 1.48 GAA over his last six starts. He’s allowed two goals or fewer in five straight games while holding opponents to one goal or less in three of those contests. With Skinner putting up a brick wall in the Edmonton cage and the Oilers averaging more than four goals per game during their streak, they should cruise to another win tonight in Montreal.
I also don’t see the Oilers' offense slowing down right now, which is why I also like the Over on 6.5 total goals. Edmonton hasn’t scored more than three goals in any of its last three games but that’s not for lack of trying. They threw 47 shots on net in their last outing and it took a heroic performance from Red Wings netminder Alex Lyon to keep the game close.
Sam Montembeault will get the call for Montreal tonight, and while he’s made a lot of saves of late, he hasn’t had much defensive help. The Habs netminder has given up at least three goals in eight straight games while allowing four in three of those contests. With McDavid and Hyman both scoring in waves, I like the Oilers’ chances to put up four or five against Montembeault.
