Islanders vs Devils Prediction, Picks & Odds for Today’s NHL Game

The back of the Islanders' net has looked like a coal bin of late, and things have not been much better defensively for the Devils this month. Expect this contest to be played fast and loose with pucks flying into the net, per our NHL betting picks.

The New Jersey Devils and New York Islanders are gearing up for a meaningless game. The Devils have lost two straight and would like to feel good about how they’re playing going into the postseason, but they’re locked into the third seed in the Metropolitan Division, so the important thing for them is to make sure nobody gets hurt.

I don’t think this game will be played very tightly, and that's why my Islanders vs. Devils predictions and NHL picks for Sunday, April 13 favor the Over.

Islanders vs Devils prediction

My best bet: Over 5.5 (-130 at BetMGM)

My analysis
The starting goalies haven’t been confirmed for this matchup just yet, but it is anticipated that we will see Marcus Hogberg for the New York Islanders and Jacob Markstrom for the New Jersey Devils.

Hogberg has started the last two games for the Islanders, and things have not gone well for him. In those two starts, he’s allowed a combined 11 goals and is skating to a .770 SV% with a 5.98 GAA — yikes.

Things have not been going well for the Islanders in general, as they have been eliminated from playoff contention. Since the start of April, their games have been chaotic. They have played in six contests, and have been averaging 3.17 goals per game, while allowing an average of 4.17 goals.

The Devil,s on the other hand, have been playing a bit loose just because they know what their destiny is as far as playoff matchups are concerned. The Devils will face the Hurricanes in the first round of the playoffs no matter what happens, so they literally have nothing to play for right now. They’ve been scoring 2.67 goals per game in April, so they’d like to see the production go up a bit, but they’ve been allowing 3.67 goals against per contest.

Nico Hischier and Timo Meier have been hot for New Jersey. Hischier has four points in his last three games, while Meier has three. Those two have been driving the Devils offense and should continue to do so today.

This game should be a wild one and I see it being very high-scoring.

Islanders vs Devils same-game parlay (SGP)

Over 5.5

Devils moneyline

Jesper Bratt 3+ shots on goal

The Islanders have been a complete disaster and I don’t expect that to change this afternoon. They’ve lost three straight games and have given up 19 goals in that span. The Devils need to start dialing in for playoffs, and I see them doing that today.

Jesper Bratt has nine shots on goal in his last three games and has had a minimum of three shots on goal in 60% of his last five games. He is the Devils' best offensive player and should be able to dominate this afternoon.
