Thanks to stacks absolutely crushing, it was a great week — +32 units on posted stacks and +12.45 units on all stacks over the last seven days. It’s a great board to attack today, and I have a mix of props for St. Patty’s Day.
These are my three favorite NHL player props for Monday, March 17.
NHL player prop bets today
L. Hughes o0.5 assists (+135 at bet365)
Paul + Bjorkstrand o0.5 points each (+350 at bet365)
Zucker + McLeod o0.5 points each (+275 at bet365)
Best NHL player prop bets for March 17
Luke Hughes Over 0.5 assists (+135 at bet365)
Dougie Hamilton is done for the regular season, and that means Luke Hughes will continue to get bigger minutes and better offensive opportunities. Over his last 10 games, the PP1 defenseman has 10 assists and one goal. He also has three multi-point games in that stretch, including Saturday’s two-assist game vs. the Penguins, who smacked the Devils 7-3.
It’s time for a rebound game from the battling Devils vs. Jet Greaves and the Blue Jackets, who are shuffling up their lines and have lost five of their last six games.
Hughes is +135 for an assist today and something I’d buy to +115. Greaves might have some decent numbers over a five-game sample this year, but he projects as a backup, and the Blue Jackets have the worst xGA numbers in hockey since the restart.
Nick Paul + Oliver Bjorkstrand Over 0.5 points each (+350 at bet365)
This stack might not be PP1 correlated, but Oliver Bjorkstrand playing on the top power-play unit and 5-on-5 with Nick Paul (PP2) is still a good look at this price.
I like the Brandon Hagel + Anthony Cirelli stack at +170 as they are playing with Nikita Kucherov at even strength, but +350 for some secondary scoring in a game where Tampa could put up five goals is the better move if you had to choose.
Paul is coming off a two-point game, while Jon Cooper is trying to get Bjorkstrand going with a promotion to PP1.
The Flyers are in the dumps, having last won in regulation on February 25. They're sporting a Bottom-10 penalty kill and own the fifth-worst GAA since the restart. It’s a great spot to hit some Tampa stacks, and this unconventional one at this price is my favorite.
Jason Zucker + Ryan McLeod Over 0.5 points each (+275 at bet365)
The Sabres are without JJ Peterka, Josh Norris, and Jiri Kulich tonight vs. the Bruins, who have trailed for 269 of their last 303 minutes spanning the last seven games. The Buffalo offense is decimated, but Jason Zucker and Ryan McLeod will be PP1 and line-2 correlated today, and that’s a role I’d play +170 or better every day.
McLeod jumped in Kulich’s PP1 spot Saturday after the latter exited the game after a tough hit to the upper body. The top line features Jordan Greenway — so it can only be so good — while the Bruins will likely use their last chance to slow down Tage Thompson and Alex Tuch.
Zucker went from 15 to 20 minutes in ice time thanks to the injuries, while McLeod is riding a three-game point streak and played 22 minutes last game. Only the Blue Jackets have a worse xGA/60 at all strengths than the Bruins across the previous 10 games, per Natural Stat Trick.
