It was a little winning day here after a 1-2 SU article for +0.25 units. Unders have been crushing of late, hitting at 69% over the last seven days, so there are fewer spots to find point props.
That’s okay because 20 teams are in action tonight, and some great plus-money linemate point stacks are available.
These are my three favorite NHL player props for Tuesday, April 8.
NHL player prop bets today
Cozens + Batherson o0.5 points each (+210 at bet365)
Meier + Mercer o0.5 points each (+200 at bet365)
Hayton + Schmaltz o0.5 points each (+200 at bet365)
Best NHL player prop bets for April 8
Dylan Cozens + Drake Batherson Over 0.5 points each (+210 at bet365)
This price is quite surprising vs. the Columbus Blue Jackets, who have been the fourth-most generous team in terms of GAA since the restart. There Ottawa Senators still don't have Brady Tkachuk, so Dylan Cozens and Drake Batherson are getting better minutes and better opportunities on the power play, which sees the BJ’s below-average penalty kill.
This is a game does not have a lot of importance as the Blue Jackets are all but done and the Senators could move into the third spot in the division, but their playoff spot is safe. That might lead to a more open game that sees some goals with Linus Ullmark on the bench and Anton Forsberg starting.
Cozens is getting more minutes and Columbus goalie Elvis Merzlikins is sporting a .852 save percentage with a 4.57 GAA over the last three weeks.
Timo Meier + Dawson Mercer Over 0.5 points each (+200 at bet365)
This is a PP1 correlated second line playing the worst team in hockey at home for +200. There’s a lot to like about it.
No team has been as bad as the Boston Bruins since the 4 Nations Face-Off, as they've gone 4-14 SU while losing by almost 1.5 goals per game over that stretch. The New Jersey Devils need to get going but are locked into that No.3 spot in the Metro.
This line is seeing just as many 5-on-5 minutes as the Jesper Bratt line but paying 120 more points than the Bratt/Nico Hischier stack which is -120.
Dawson Mercer is pushing this price up as he is +105 for a single point and is getting as many as 19 minutes a game right now as Sheldon Keefe has gone top-heavy with this injured lineup. I would play this to +165/+170.
Barrett Hayton + Nick Schmaltz Over 0.5 points each (+200 at bet365)
The third time's the charm. This is a second line that also correlates on PP1 for +200. It’s also a stack that might have the best goalie matchup, as Philipp Grubauer should be in net for the Seattle Kraken after Joey Daccord got the start in last night’s 2-1 win over the Kings.
Grubauer has been a better goalie since being recalled but he is a major regression candidate, as he was statistically one of the worst goalies in the game before heading to the AHL.
It’s the second game of a back-to-back for the Kraken, and this Utah Hockey Club stack has hit in two of the last three games since Barrett Hayton was moved to PP1 instead of Logan Cooley. The pair is coming off a multi-point stack game.
