Tonight’s four-game NHL slate gives us a rematch of the 2018 Stanley Cup Final as Alex Ovechkin’s Washington Capitals visit Jack Eichel and the Vegas Golden Knights.

I’ll look for Eichel to keep racking up assists and for Ovi to keep piling shots on net in his chase of the all-time goals record.

Today’s NHL prop picks and best bets

Prop bet #1: Jack Eichel 2+ assists

+300 at bet365

Jack Eichel has had a fantastic first month or so to start the 2024-25 campaign, with his 22 assists ranking second among all skaters behind only Nathan MacKinnon (26).

The Vegas Golden Knights center is fresh off a two-assist performance against Utah on Friday and carries a five-game point streak into tonight’s contest against the Washington Capitals. I’ll be looking for him to extend that run with two more helpers tonight.

Eichel has notched at least one assist in each of his last five games with multiple helpers in three of those contests. He’s been especially deadly on the man advantage, racking up 11 of his assists on the power play — including five in his last five outings.

Vegas is operating at 34.8% on the man advantage — the second-best mark in the NHL — so look for Eichel to do some damage there.

The Golden Knights are averaging 4.12 goals per game, second most behind only the Capitals (4.19), so there should be plenty of goals for Eichel to factor on in this one.

Prop bet #2: Alex Ovechkin Over 3.5 shots

+128 at bet365

Switching over to the other side of the matchup, I’m banking on another high-volume shooting performance from Alex Ovechkin as he continues his chase of Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goals record.

Ovechkin entered the season needing 42 goals to beat the record and has already scored 10 times in 16 games. A major reason for his success has been his continued willingness to shoot the puck — Ovi is averaging 3.44 shots per game which places him within the top 20 league-wide.

The Washington Capitals captain has really been heating up since October 29 with eight of his goals coming in his last nine contests. Ovechkin has tallied at least four shots on net in seven of those games, and six of his last seven.

The Vegas Golden Knights rank right around league average in terms of shots against but they have given up 30+ shots in three of their last four games.

With Ovechkin looking determined to break Gretzky’s record this season, he should be in the mood to throw plenty of pucks on the Vegas net.

Prop bet #3: Artemi Panarin Over 3.5 shots

+105 at bet365

The New York Rangers have had a solid start to their season, going 10-4-1 through their first 15 games, and Artemi Panarin has arguably been the driving force behind his team’s early success.

Panarin ranks first on the team in every major offensive category, including goals, assists, and points, but it’s his shooting that draws my attention in tonight’s matchup against the Seattle Kraken.

The Rangers forward is averaging a solid 3.60 shots per game — 13th-most in the NHL — and has only upped the ante over the last couple of weeks. Panarin has notched 4+ shots in three straight games and four of his last five outings while averaging exactly four shots per contest over that span.

Per Natural Stat Trick, the Kraken ranks 24th in shot attempts against per game (62.11) so I like Panarin’s chances of racking up another four-shot performance.
