Today’s NHL prop picks and best bets

Prop bet #1: Ross Colton Over 0.5 points

-125 at BetMGM

Hockey is the least-reactive market of the big four sports. How has Ross Colton's Over 0.5 points not hit -165? It's insane. Nathan MacKinnon is -800 for a point. Colton plays all his shifts with Nate Mac.

The first-line and PP1 winger has multi-goals in back-to-back games and has seven points through six games. He is also shooting a ton with 22 SOG. If Colton's Over 0.5 points is too expensive for you as some books are as short as -140, add his Over 2.5 SOG to make it +186 at DraftKings. It's not the best SOG matchup vs. the Seattle Kraken, but Colorado is not winning games and the first line is getting heavy minutes with negative game script.

This Over-point prop is a buy until -150 or until Colorado gets some wingers back into the lineup. Until then, this is a prop I will bet on every day until they adjust the odds. He literally has the best opportunity of any winger in hockey and the books aren't adjusting enough.

Prop bet #2: Connor Garland Over 0.5 points

-120 at BET99

Jake DeBrusk has been moved off of the first power-play unit and Connor Garland is jumping up. He is playing all his shifts with Elias Pettersson and the duo stack of Over 0.5 points is paying +184. It's a great matchup for the Vancouver Canucks offense as the Chicago Blackhawks are anything but a defensively strong team with a penalty kill that might be punching above its weight after finishing last year with the No.27 PK.

Garland's price has been adjusted better than Ross Colton's in Colorado but he should see 19+ minutes of ice time and has pointed in all but one of his five games this year. The Blackhawks will also likely use their few defensive resources on the Miller/Boeser line giving Garland a little more ice to work with and better matchups on the road.

The Pettersson and Garland stack is one of my favorites today but the Miller/Boeser stack is also in play at anything even money or better. There is also a chance that Miller misses this game and Garland could have a bigger role. Miller is dealing with "issues" so it's tough to read between the lines as to what the issue is there. My lean is he plays.

Prop bet #3: Barrett Hayton Over 0.5 points

+105 at BetMGM

This is by far one of the least neglected offerings from the books. This is the same price for Hayton to score a point as it was in Game 1. All he has done while centering the top line and PP 1 is score four goals and add two helpers over six games — two of those points have come with the man advantage.

So what's the catch? Is it a tough matchup for the Utah Hockey Club? No. No, it's not.

The Ottawa Senators have a 3.80 GAA on the year and have allowed 14 goals over their last contests. Linus Ullmark is returning tonight but he also allowed four goals on 26 shots in his last outing. This is a team with issues on defense as Artem Zub is out and Thomas Chabot has struggled to stay healthy again this year.

Getting a first-line and PP1 center at anything better than -130 is a buy. I wouldn't even hate putting Ross Colton 2+ points and Barrett Hayton 2+ points together at +2,620 at DraftKings.
