Rangers vs Devils Game 7 Odds, Picks, and Predictions: Roll With the Veteran Rangers

A see-saw series comes to close in New Jersey on Monday as the Rangers visit the Devils. Home-ice advantage has been non-existent in this quarterfinal, so the battle-tested Blueshirts appear to have the edge, according to our NHL betting picks.

The New York Rangers went home for Game 6 and were able to find their stride once again, forcing a winner-take-all Game 7 tonight in Newark, NJ.

The visiting teams have had all the luck so far across the NHL, going 2-0 in Game 7s, so is the pressure on the Devils tonight?

This series has been back-and-forth throughout, making the expectations for this game very high.

Rangers vs Devils Game 7 predictions

Playing in a Game 7 is something that this New York Rangers group is quite familiar with. They played in two of them in last year’s postseason, winning both of them, including one on the road.

These games typically all come down to goaltending. For the Rangers, Igor Shesterkin is getting the nod, as usual. He has been phenomenal in this series, skating to a .939 SV% and a 1.75 GAA while also maintaining a league’s best +7.3 goals saved above expected.

Akira Schmid was in the starter’s goal at the New Jersey Devils morning skate, and head coach Lindy Ruff confirmed him as the goalie for tonight despite pulling him in Game 6 after allowing five goals on 29 shots. Schmid has been incredible for the Devils since entering this series in Game 3, but this will be his first ever Game 7.

The Rangers are 7-1 in their last eight Game 7s. This team doesn’t fear the big moment, and since they are an underdog, I feel that they are the best value. I trust Shesterkin, and I think he will lead his team to a victory.

Rangers vs Devils Game 7 moneyline analysis

Game 7 is a complete toss-up according to the NHL odds. We have seen both the Devils and the Rangers dominate at different points of this series, but when it comes to a do-or-die game, you have to go with the experience.

The Rangers have a ton of players on this roster that have performed on the biggest stages, from Chris Kreider to Mika Zibanejad. The Devils have certainly earned respect around the league, and have showed that they can keep up with anyone in the NHL. But the biggest concern for them is if their goaltending will show up.

The one constant in this series has been Shesterkin. He has truly made all six of the previous games competitive, even when they shouldn’t have been.

The Devils are at their best when they play a disciplined hockey game, which they did not do in Game 6.

As it stands, the Devils are currently the worst offensive team in the playoffs, ranking 16th with 2.17 goals per game. The Rangers are in the middle of the pack, scoring 2.83 goals per game.

Home ice advantage hasn’t necessarily been a thing this postseason. I think the Rangers have the edge on the road.

Rangers vs Devils Game 7 Over/Under analysis

Goaltending is going to be the biggest difference maker in tonight’s game.

Both goalies have been absolutely outstanding in this series, and I don’t expect Schmid to have back-to-back poor games.

Like I said before, Shesterkin has been one of the best goalies in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but Schmid hasn’t been too far behind him.

Schmid is skating to a .937 SV% and a 1.72 GAA. Neither team is averaging more than three goals per game, and with the pressure of a Game 7, I don’t expect to see many goals.

I think we will see a low-scoring battle tonight. I like the Under.
