Senators vs Sharks Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

Although Ottawa is in the midst of a five-game losing streak, the Senators should have no trouble regaining momentum against the league-worst Sharks.

The Ottawa Senators will host the San Jose Sharks at the Canadian Tire Centre tonight. NHL odds list Ottawa as a -309 favorite, while the total is set at 6.0.

My Senators analysis
The San Jose Sharks are in a total freefall, as the team continues to struggle at generating high danger scoring chances.

Over the past two months, the Sharks have ranked 31st in the league in xGF/60. The defense is even worse, sitting dead last in xGA/60 over that same stretch.

Backing up this poor two-way team is goaltender Vitek Vanecek, who has had issues stopping the puck. This season, Vanecek is 3-9-3 through 17 appearances in the crease with a .882 SV% and 3.87 GAA. These woes are likely to continue against the Ottawa Senators, a team Vanecek possesses a .884 SV% against through two career meetings.

The Sens also rank eighth in xGA/60 over the past two months. The advantages don’t stop there for Ottawa, considering that Linus Ullmark is projected to start between the pipes. Ullmark boasts a .912 SV% this season, finishing off the trifecta of Ottawa’s stronger offense, defense, and goaltending in this matchup.

Senators vs Sharks odds analysis

Ottawa opened as a -285 favorite and has since moved to -309. This line movement makes sense due to the aforementioned variables.

Meanwhile, the total opened at 6.0 and hasn’t moved. The juice is on the Under, and considering the Senators’ recent elite defensive play, I wouldn’t be surprised if the line drops to 5.5 prior to puck drop.
