Creighton vs Auburn Prediction, Picks & Odds for Saturday's March Madness Game

Johni Broome is coming off a double-double in round one vs. Alabama State, but as Chris Hatfield explains, he won't find any easy buckets vs. a good Bluejays defense.

Creighton and Auburn meet with a trip to the Sweet 16 on the line.

Auburn got here in "relatively" straightforward fashion against 16-seeded Alabama State. The Bluejays took care of business against Louisville, leading almost gate to wire.

While Creighton will feel good about their chances of pulling the, my Creighton vs. Auburn predictions and March Madness picks look to the prop market to make some hay.

Who will win Creighton vs Auburn?

Auburn. The Tigers are vulnerable, sure, but it's not here. Creighton's individual defenders will be tested but can't hold up. I look for the Auburn backcourt to outplay the Creighton backcourt considerably, which will be the difference between the two teams.

Creighton vs Auburn prediction

My best bet: Johni Broome under 19.5 points (-130 at bet365)

Creighton took almost immediate money at the opening number of 10, bringing the full-game number to around 9. And I get it. Auburn looked lackluster to open the tournament, Creighton looked like a well-oiled machine, and the Jays do not lack tournament experience, which makes them dangerous. However, there's a cause for pause.

Yes, the most obvious weakness for the Tigers is defensively against catch-and-threes. Auburn ranks in the bottom 40 percentile defensively against them. And yes, Creighton has multiple shooters capable of exploiting this issue. The problem? The Jays had their best shooting performance of the season, a game that ShotQuality graded as a loss. That makes this spot scream "shot regression" and muddies the waters. I also made this number 8, so while there's a slight edge, it's not like I'm seeing a massive one. I'm headed to the prop market for this best bet. We're taking Johni Broome Under 19.5 points.

There's a path to Broome being highly impactful here as a passer. There's even a path for him to make a couple of threes and still go Under his points total. Either way, this number should be closer to 17.5, going up against the 7 '1 Ryan Kalkbrenner.

First, an essential qualifier about the matchup.

Broome could be the National Player of the Year, but it's worth noting that his game isn't some high-flying style full of crazy vertical jumps and athleticism. Broome is a different type of player who uses elite footwork and positioning to make his part. He also plays underneath the rim a ton, which will be difficult to do against Kalkbrenner. While not as talented, Hunter Dickinson is the closest comp in play style to someone that Kalkbrenner has already played this season. He was entirely held in check to the tune of just six points. At the same time, I don't necessarily expect that here; I do expect tons of resilience. It's also worth mentioning that Auburn will be mostly OK with Broome neutralized, too.

Kalkbrenner's focus on slowing down Broome will open up the floor for the rest of the Auburn players. The Tigers have one of the best off-the-dribble offenses in the country behind guards like Chad Baker Mazera, Denver Jones, and Tahaad Pettiford. Broome has regularly shown this season his maturity and knowledge that he doesn't need to score to impact a game. The matchup will dictate that approach here, so I expect to see it.

Creighton vs Auburn same-game parlay (SGP)

Johni Broome Under 19.5 points

Johni Broome Over 1.5 threes

Tahaad Pettiford 10+ points

A noncorrelated leg of our same-game parlay gives us a nice odds boost, so we pair Broome to make multiple threes with our best bet.

Just because he doesn't go over his point total doesn't necessarily mean he can't make a few from deep. While Kalkbrenner and his length will neutralize almost everything around the rim, Broome should still be able to draw him away from the basket and make a few triples.

We'll finish things up with Tahaad Pettiford to reach 10+ points. He's the best dribble creator on the Auburn team, and he should have tons of freedom while the Broome occupies space. He's also reached this market in four of his last six games.
