Crystal Palace vs Brighton Predictions and Picks: Brighton Get Back on Track

Brighton are in a great position to get back on track with their European exploits on hold for the time being. They get a Crystal Palace squad that has been stumbling of late and our betting picks look to exploit their struggles.

The Premier League gets underway early this week with Crystal Palace vs. Brighton on Thursday. Both sets of supporters will be desperate for three points as neither club has won in several games.

Will it be the home side that comes away victorious at Selhurst Park or will Brighton pull off the win? Don’t miss our Crystal Palace vs Brighton tips and predictions to find out.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton best odds

EPL predictions for Crystal Palace vs Brighton

This will be the 113th edition of what is now known as the M23 Derby, named after the road that loosely connects Crystal Palace and Brighton. The rivalry developed in the 1970s but it’s only in recent years that it, perhaps driven by the media, has taken on a wider consciousness.

The clubs are separated by six spots and nine points in the Premier League table, with Brighton leading the way as they sit ninth. Crystal Palace are only three points off the relegation zone and although they have an eight-point buffer, they need to keep looking over their shoulder.

Crystal Palace come into this off the back of a huge 2-2 draw at Man City on Saturday. A 95th-minute goal from Michael Olise earned them a share of the points in a result that shook up the Premier League title race. It’s a massive result for the club and one that they fully deserved, especially after losing to Liverpool with just 10 men a week earlier thanks to an extra-time goal from Harvey Elliott.

Brighton come into this after losing 2-0 to Premier League leaders Arsenal on Sunday. Before that, they’d drawn to relegation-threatened Brighton. In between those two games was a 1-0 win over Marseille in the Europa League and there’s an argument that perhaps Brighton have been paying too much attention to their European campaign, which saw them win Group B with just one defeat.

With European competition now on ice until the new year, Brighton have a chance to focus on boosting their Premier League position and my best bet for this game is for the Seagulls to secure the three points against Crystal Palace.

We have had some good performances from Palace of late but they’ve picked up just four wins all season and lost eight games. What would concern me if I were a Palace fan is the terrible home form of Roy Hodgson’s team. They’ve played eight games at Selhurst Park this season and won just once back in early September. No team has won fewer home games than Palace and they’ve also drawn two others, meaning five home defeats. That form puts them alongside the three teams in the relegation zone and, for whatever reason, this team can’t get it going at home.

Brighton have a better squad and better coaching. I expect them to get back on track in the Premier League and start moving up the table. That starts on Thursday with a win over Palace, who simply can’t perform at Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton same-game parlay

Brighton moneyline

Both teams to score - Yes

Evan Ferguson Over 0.5 shots on target

We’re going to back Brighton to win on the moneyline.

Next, we’re going to back both teams to score. Palace have been shocking at home with their seven goals, fewer than any other Premier League team in their other stadium. However, Brighton’s biggest problem this season has been that they can’t keep clean sheets. Brighton have scored in all but one Premier League game this season but their opposition has found the back in every single match, meaning that BTTS has landed in 94.1% of their games.

To finish, let's add Brighton’s Irish striker Evan Ferguson to have Over 0.5 shots on target. Still only 19, he is developing into one of the Premier League’s best young strikers. He’s scored six goals this season, the most of anyone in a Brighton shirt, despite five of his 16 appearances coming from the bench. He should start on Thursday and that should improve his chances to get at least one of his shots on target.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton side and Over/Under analysis

Brighton to win is my best bet at +115 but if you have strong opinions on either team, you can get a big price. A Palace win is listed at +220, and the draw is at +250. Despite a good performance last week, I don’t believe Palace will be able to keep up with Brighton here.

In terms of total goals, it’s a pick’em with Over 2.5 and Under 2.5 both coming in at -111. Overs have landed in 50% of Crystal Palace’s home games this season, including in three of their last four at Selhurst Park. Over 2.5 has also landed in 75% of Brighton’s games on the road.

With that in mind, I’d back Over 2.5 goals here, which feels like it should be a shorter price than -111.
