My analysis
Monday sees the final two games of Group B take place and there’s a lot at stake. Spain have already secured their spot as winners of the group after strong victories over Croatia and Italy. The Italians sit second in the group, two points head of Albania and Croatia. The Albanians know that whatever happens in that other game, they can secure a spot in the Round of 16 with a win.
Albania were expected to be the weakest team in this group, but in truth, they’ve looked good at times. They took an early lead over Italy before succumbing to their barrage of attacks and ultimately losing. Then they faced Croatia and despite taking the lead again, went into added time 2-1 down before Flaus Gjasula scored in the 95th minute to earn them a deserved point.
The Spanish, with perhaps the exception of Germany, have been the most impressive team at the tournament so far. They played Croatia off the park on the second game day of Euro 2024 before posting a 1-0 win over Italy to secure top spot in Group B. This result effectively has become a dead rubber to them now but with Albania desperate for a win, it could mean we see a shock.
Not only will Albania go into Monday’s game with more desire to win, given that the result actually matters to them, they’ll also go in with their first-choice team. The Spanish will use this as an opportunity to rest players ahead of their Round of 16 game. That means the likes of Pedri and Lamine Yamal will be benched. Potential incomers like Ferran Torres are no doubt great players but this is a team who haven’t practiced much together, something which should put them at a disadvantage regardless of quality.
One of the most impressive things about Spain so far has been their defense, which has kept two clean sheets and any changes there will automatically weaken them. That’s bad news against an Albanian team who have scored three goals in two games and have the ability to beat teams on the floor or in the air.
It’s hard to see Albania winning this game even with Spain’s changes, purely because of the quality that Spain can bring on in attacking positions, but it wouldn’t be a shock to see a score draw. With that in mind we’re backing Albania vs Spain to finish tied at odds of +380.

In addition to our best bet, we’re also going to back both teams to score. We’ve seen Spain four times in two games, with the Albanians scoring three times. Albania know they need to win this, so they’ll be throwing players and trying to score. While Spain, even if it’s their second string, have real talent and should also score.
In expectation of Luis de la Fuente making changes to his Spanish lineup, we’re going to back Ferran Torres to score. He scored 11 times in all competitions for Barcelona but he’s been prolific with 19 goals in 43 games for Spain. We’ve seen Lamine Yamal benched in both games to keep him fresh, so it’s likely that he’s one of the changes made here.
