Slovenia were one of the surprises in the opening round of matches but they need to beat the Euro 2024 odds once more against Serbia in Munich if they are to stand any chance to qualify for the Round of 16.
Serbia did little to trouble an England side which was far from its best version. Manager Dragan Stojkovic and his players are under pressure to deliver, so the quality attackers on the team should take center stage, as I explain in my Slovenia vs. Serbia prediction and Euro 2024 picks.
Slovenia vs Serbia picks, predictions, and betting tips
My best bet:
Both teams to score - Yes (-122 at Betano)
My analysis
Slovenia had 11 attempts against Denmark, and they only scored once. But had Andraž Šporar and Benjamin Šeško been more clinical in front of goal, the score could have been much different.
Šeško showed at national and club levels that he can be dangerous in front of any defense. He comes to Euro 2024 after netting 14 times in the Bundesliga last season for Leipzig. Šeško is fresh from signing a new contract with the German club, but that shouldn't keep the Premier League spenders away for too long. Before he penned a new deal with Leipzig, Šeško had been a target for both Arsenal and Chelsea.
The 20-year-old is one of the high-profile names expected to shine Halland-style at the top of European football in the years to come. He was ever-present in Slovenia's counters against Denmark. Manager Matjaž Kek hopes to see him deliver in front of a Serbian defense which has shown many liabilities over the past few years.
Slovenia have only failed to score in one of their last 21 international games. Serbia have only kept two clean sheets in their previous 15 clashes at the Euros. None of these 15 matches finished goalless.
When you think about Aleksandar Mitrović, Dušan Vlahović, Luka Jović, Sergej Milinković-Savić, and Dušan Tadić, who are all expected to be involved in this matchup, you see plenty of creativity and goals on Serbia's behalf. Slovenia and Serbia have met eight times so far, with a victory each and six draws in their previous encounters. At Euro 2000, they were part of the same group, and their spectacular clash ended in a 3-3 draw.
Slovenia and Serbia will both look to win and an open game is expected. A bet on both to score (-122 at Betano) is worth a proper look.
Slovenia vs Serbia same-game parlay (SGP)
Both teams to score - Yes
Benjamin Šeško 2+ shots on goal
Over 3.5 yellow cards
Šeško can profit from Serbia's defensive problems to capitalize in Slovenia's favor. Serbia conceded against weaker opposition throughout the qualifiers. Bulgaria, Montenegro, and Lithuania all found the net when playing the Serbs. Even teams ranked way below Serbia in the FIFA rankings like Jordan and Bahrain managed to penetrate their defense in friendlies. Šeško, Slovenia's danger provider, will have the mission to hurt Serbia, so him shooting at least twice on goal looks like a good option.
The referee chosen to lead Slovenia vs. Serbia will be Romanian official Istvan Kovacs. Kovacs is renowned for having a limited tolerance when it comes to sanctioning players during games. In each of his previous eight matches in charge, he showed at least five yellow cards. Slovenia vs. Serbia is not expected to be a soft match, so Kovacs can surely see himself challenged by the occasion.
