Liverpool vs Everton picks and predictions
Everton come into this weekend in the relegation zone and despite what looked like a promising start to the season they slumped under Frank Lampard before the England legend was fired and replaced by former Burnley manager Sean Dyche. Last weekend we instantly saw the Dyche effect, with Everton managing to beat Premier League leaders Arsenal.
Many of us expected Dyche to do well with Everton but nobody could have expected that result so quickly. The likes of Conor Coady and James Tarkowski, who was with Dyche at Burnley, are the sort of professionals who will help his team play to his methods.
With Liverpool’s struggles this season, they aren’t anywhere near as dangerous as they have been in previous seasons. They’ve won just eight of 20 Premier League games and their last league win was five games ago.
In recent history, Liverpool have had the better of this fixture, winning two of the last three, although the most recent game back in September was a 0-0 draw. Given the way Liverpool have been playing in recent months, I can’t back them to win this game.
Dyche’s first game in charge of Everton was hugely impressive and although I doubt they win this, I do believe that they won’t lose. So, for that reason I’m backing the double chance, meaning that if Everton win or it finishes tied the bet will win, which seems great value at +160.
My best bet: Double chance Everton/draw (+160 at PointsBet)

Liverpool vs Everton side analysis
By now we know exactly how Liverpool will line up. Jurgen Klopp has set his team out in a 4-3-3 religiously but with injuries across the team, and in particular in defense, there are some question marks.
We’ll almost certainly see Joel Matip and Joe Gomez at the back. A central defensive duo who will greatly miss Virgil van Dijk. Either side of them will be Andy Robertson or Trent Alexander-Arnold, with Alisson behind them in goal.
In midfield, we will probably see young Stefan Bajcetic get his third Premier League start, alongside Thiago and Jordan Henderson. The front three of Mohamad Salah, Darwin Nunez, and Cody Gakpo writes itself but it’s a trio that hasn’t clicked yet, despite the obvious talent on show. Gakpo scored nine in 14 for PSV before his January move but has yet to score for Liverpool.
Everton beat Arsenal last week playing in a 4-5-1 and I’d expect to see that formation once again for the visitors. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has a hamstring injury so he’s a doubt, with Neal Maupay likely to start. The midfield five behind him features former Burnley player Dwight McNeil and then a central trio of Doucoure, Gueye, and Onana, who should have the work rate to make the midfield hard to get through.
As mentioned in the best bet, it’s hard to see Liverpool winning here, which seems like a crazy thing to say given how bad Everton looked just a couple of weeks ago.
Liverpool vs Everton Over/Under analysis
If you look at the odds, you’d be forgiven for thinking that we should see three or more goals on Monday. There have been Over 2.5 goals in 60% of Liverpool’s games at Anfield, which might be something to do with conceding nine goals in the league at home this season.
There have been Under 2.5 goals in 70% of Everton’s games on the road and that’s where I’d be putting my money if I were to beat either Over or Under in this game.
Given the brilliant defensive performance we saw against Arsenal, I’m confident that Dyche will deploy similar tactics here and I can’t see that resulting in a high-scoring game.
