My analysis
After a long, hard campaign, it’s finally here: time to crown this season’s Premier League champion.
With Arsenal only managing to draw against Crystal Palace midweek, it means that Liverpool now have a chance to win the trophy at Anfield in front of their own fans by just avoiding defeat.
This title will be particularly special for two reasons. First, it’ll put them level on league titles with hated rivals Man Utd, and second, it’ll give them a chance to celebrate with their fans, something that wasn’t possible last time, with the UK under lockdown at the time, thanks to the pandemic.
Liverpool have only lost two Premier League games all season, and while they have dropped off in form over the last month, they’ll still have enough about them to wrap up that trophy this Sunday. For our best bet, we’re backing them to be winning at halftime and fulltime, with the feel-good atmosphere around Anfield driving them on and helping them defeat an inconsistent team, who have their minds elsewhere.
Liverpool have a great record against Spurs in recent years, with the London club only managing to beat the Reds three times in their past 28 meetings in all competitions. Interestingly, one of those wins was this season in the EFL Cup semi-finals, one of three meetings between the teams already this year. Liverpool won the other two games, and they were winning those two at halftime also, before going on to win by a margin of three or more goals.
We also need to consider Spurs. They entered the weekend 16th in the Premier League for a reason. While they’ve been hugely unlucky with injuries, they have also been terrible at times. They’re far too inconsistent, and Ange Postecoglou’s tactics have been naïve at best, reckless and negligent at worst.
They’ve lost four of their past five in the Premier League, and while they do have a good attack, they may be in over their heads.
However, despite their struggles, they have managed to reach the semifinal stage of the Europa League. The first of their two semifinal legs against Bodo/Glimt is this coming Thursday, and it’s a far more important game for the manager, the players, and the Tottenham fans than this one. We will probably see rotation in their starting lineup with Postecoglou rested key players, and Son Heung-Min is unlikely to be risked from the start as he returns from injury, with such an important game in the week.

In addition to our best bet, we’re backing Liverpool -2 on the spread. Liverpool might have limped over the line in these past few weeks, but this game should be different. We’ve spoken above about Spurs having their focus on Thursday’s European game, but in addition to that, we have to factor in Liverpool winning the title. If they score early, then it’s going to be very hard to stop them, and the feel-good atmosphere around Anfield will only spur the players on.
To wrap up this SGP, we’re also backing Mohamed Salah to score. Salah hasn’t managed to score in his past six games for Liverpool, his longest scoreless streak of the season by a large margin, but if there’s ever a game to get right, it’s this one. The 32-year-old has had a monster season with 27 in 33 Premier League games and has cemented himself as a legend on Merseyside. Sunday could easily see Liverpool’s best player getting in on the party as the club lifts the Premier League trophy.
