Real Betis vs Chelsea picks and predictions

My Real Betis vs Chelsea best bet: Both teams to score (-125 at bet365)

The second of Europe’s three continental finals will be decided in Wroclaw, Poland, with Real Betis coming up against Chelsea.

Chelsea are the favorites, and if you look at recent results, it’s easy to understand why.

Real Betis are winless in their previous five games, while Chelsea have now won an impressive seven from their last eight in all competitions. However, a closer look at Betis’ recent games puts them in a different light; they’ve only been beaten once in their last 10, and we need to consider that they’ve been focused on this game and the potential of winning their first European trophy.

After all, this is a club with just four major honors in its history, one La Liga title, 90 years ago, and three Copa del Rey trophies.

The London club have the bigger and more expensive squad, and on paper, the better starting lineup. However, despite finishing fourth in the Premier League, this isn’t a convincing team and they still look like a collection of stars, not one, cohesive unit, that makes backing the result at the end of 90 minutes, to be Betis or the Draw in the Double Chance market, a great wager at -105. However, it’s not the best bet; that surely has to be both teams to score, which makes sense for a number of reasons.

We’re expecting Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer to be starting for the Blues, while Antony, Isco, and Cedric Bakambu should start for Betis. Antony has been revitalized since arriving in Spain, with nine goals since his January loan move, while former Real Madrid man Isco is rolling back the years at 33 years old. He has 20 goal contributions in all competitions for Los Verdiblancos. Then there’s Bakambu, who, despite having a poor season in La Liga, most often used as a sub, has been electric in this competition, scoring six goals in seven games.

Jackson has impressed at times for Chelsea this season and has 12 goals to his name, a number that would undoubtedly be higher had he not been injured for the majority of February and March. There’s also Cole Palmer, with 15 goals and eight assists for Chelsea this campaign. He started the season brightly but has faded dramatically since the turn of the year. However, he’s got real quality and when at his best, would easily be the best player on the pitch.

If we break this game down from a trends perspective:

  • Both teams conceded over one goal per game in their domestic leagues.
  • Chelsea have seen both teams score in 57.9% of Premier League games.
  • Real Betis have seen both teams score in 71.1% of La Liga games.
  • Both teams have scored in each of the last three Real Betis games and in eight of 15 Conference League games.
  • Chelsea have seen both teams score in seven of 12 Conference League games.

All this to say, we’re going to see two teams desperate to win and two teams who are better going forward than at the back.

Real Betis vs Chelsea same-game parlay (SGP)

Both teams to score — Yes

Antony 1+ shots on target

Moises Caicedo to be booked

In addition to the first leg, we’re backing Antony to have one or more shots on target. The Brazilian has spent the second half of the season on loan at Betis, having become a joke at Manchester United. Far from being derided, the 25-year-old has seen his career reborn, scoring nine goals since January. He’s been excellent in the Europa Conference League, with four goals in eight games and getting 0.96 shots on target per 90 minutes played in the competition. He’s going to be extra hungry to score in this huge game, especially against Premier League opponents, so he’ll be taking plenty of shots at goal, and one should land on target.

The final leg of the Same-Game Parlay is for Moises Caicedo to get booked. The Chelsea midfielder is a big physical presence, and he has 13 yellow cards for his club this season. In this game, his biggest since arriving at Chelsea, he’s going to need to be at his best. With Isco dropping deep for Betis, it’s essential that Caicedo stays on top of his threat, and he will end up picking up a card in the process.
