USA vs Jamaica predictions

Moneyline pick

After sleep-walking through a 1-0 win over Haiti to begin the Gold Cup, the USMNT woke up and thrashed Martinique 6-1, before a goal 20 seconds in proved to be the difference in the group-deciding-game against Canada. The U.S. will hope the new surroundings of AT&T Stadium will give the squad a boost after the heavy Kansas City sunshine proved to create tired legs in two of three group stage games.

Another reason for optimism in the U.S. camp is the performance of their midfield, which has comfortably dictated games even when the team didn't look particularly threatening. USMNT stalwart Sebastian Lletget has been one of the best players of the tournament while ascending star Gianluca Busio has been outstanding at age-19 and earned a move to Serie A mid-group stage. With composed play at the back, strong midfield performances, consistency from the wingbacks, and a rising star in Daryl Dike up top, it is a matter of time until the USMNT play to their standards.

They have a strong chance of doing so against Jamaica, who exited the group stage having underwhelmed. They began Gold Cup play with a 2-0 win over Suriname, in a match that was oddly controlled by their opponents, then fell behind against Guadeloupe in the second group stage game before coming back to win. A discouraging opening stage came to an end with Jamaica unable to break down 10-man Costa Rica, after Los Ticos had their goalkeeper sent off following a straight red card.

Neither team appear to be massive threats to win the tournament after the group stage, but with experience and home-field on their side, the U.S. should take care of business in the quarterfinals.

PICK: USA (-185)

First half pick

Even as the USMNT have rotated their squad and experimented with different formations in recent matches, their rapid starts have remained a constant. The U.S. have scored in the first half in eight of 10 matches in 2021 (including in a friendly against Jamaica in March) but have conceded just twice in the opening 45 minutes in that span.

They have been especially quick to go ahead this summer, as the Gold Cup has seen the Americans get on the scoresheet before the 15-minute mark in all three of their matches so far. In front of a home crowd at AT&T Stadium, the USMNT should yet again receive the boost they need to get ahead early. Back the USA to have the lead going into halftime.

PICK:  Halftime result - USA (+115)
