NEW YORK -- Jacob deGrom threw the second complete game of his career, and Asdrubal Cabrera hit two home runs as the New York Mets beat the Chicago Cubs 6-1 on Monday at Citi Field.
The Mets (29-33) have won four straight, their longest winning streak since a season-high five-game streak from April 9-13. The Cubs (31-32) have lost five of six.
DeGrom bounced back from the worst two-start stretch of his career, in which he allowed 15 runs over eight innings. He limited the Cubs to five hits -- including a solo homer by Addison Russell in the seventh inning -- and four walks while striking out six. He induced four double plays between the third and sixth innings.
DeGrom (5-3) was at 106 pitches after eight innings, but when the Mets tacked on two runs, he was left in to bat before throwing just 10 pitches in a perfect ninth. He closed out his first complete game since he twirled a one-hit shutout against the Philadelphia Phillies on July 17, 2016.
He threw 80 strikes on Monday.
Cabrera atoned for his recent fielding struggles (three errors in the past three games) by hitting a pair of solo homers, and Jay Bruce hit a two-run homer for the Mets.
New York added insurance runs in the ninth on an RBI double by Travis d'Arnaud and an RBI single by Jose Reyes. Bruce finished with three hits.
Cubs right-hander John Lackey (4-7) took the loss after giving up four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out one over five innings.
