Chicago White Sox vs Toronto Blue Jays Match Player Stats On Aug 24, 2021

Jose Abreu hit a three-run home run in the first inning to get things started Tuesday night, and right-hander Dylan Cease struck out seven in seven innings to lead the visiting Chicago White Sox to a 5-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays.

Abreu finished with three hits and four RBIs to help the White Sox gain a split of the first two games of a four-game series. Luis Robert and Yoan Moncada each added three of Chicago's 18 hits in the game.

Cease (10-6) allowed one run on four hits and a walk in earning his third win in his five August starts (with no defeats).

Liam Hendriks went 1 2/3 innings to earn his 29th save, as he allowed one run on three singles and a walk.

Corey Dickerson hit a solo home run for the Blue Jays.

The White Sox took a 4-0 lead in the first inning against Jose Berrios (8-7). Robert and Moncada started the game with singles and Abreu hit his 26th home run of the season. Brian Goodwin and Jake Lamb singled and Danny Mendick followed with an RBI double.

Blue Jays pitching coach Pete Walker was ejected by home plate umpire Mark Carlson in the first inning.

Berrios allowed four runs on nine hits while striking out six before being replaced by Trent Thornton in the fourth inning.

Robert doubled and moved to third on a single by Moncada, who has an 11-game hitting streak. Abreu's groundout scored Robert for a 5-0 Chicago lead.

Eloy Jimenez, who had two singles, extended his hitting streak to 13 games for the White Sox.

Toronto's first base runner didn't come until two were out in the fourth, after Cease had fanned six of the first 11 batters he faced. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. singled, but the Blue Jays remained scoreless until the seventh inning when Dickerson hit his fifth home run of the season.

In the eighth, Chicago's Michael Kopech allowed one-out singles to Santiago Espinal and Bo Bichette. He was replaced by Hendriks, who walked Marcus Semien to load the bases.

Hendriks prompted Guerrero to ground into a double play to end the inning. Hendriks allowed Lourdes Gurriel Jr.'s RBI single in the ninth.

White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson (sore legs) missed his fourth consecutive game.
