Last Meeting ( Dec 9, 2018 ) N.Y. Giants 40, Washington 16

The New York Giants embraced the emergence of rookie quarterback Daniel Jones on the same day that the franchise was nearly eviscerated by the devastating injury loss of Pro Bowl running back Saquon Barkley. Jones looks to follow up his successful NFL debut on Sunday when the Giants host the winless Washington Redskins in East Rutherford, N.J.

Jones was feted with fame and a trendy nickname (Danny Dimes) in a New York minute after throwing a pair of touchdowns and rushing for two more as the Giants overcame an 18-point deficit to post a 32-31 victory over Tampa Bay last Sunday. The sixth overall pick of the draft also earned NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors after completing 23 of 36 passes for 336 yards in his first start since replacing two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning. While Jones' heroics and a missed field goal allowed the Giants to post their first win, the reeling Redskins are in danger of recording their first 0-4 start since 2001 if they don't find a way past their NFC East rival. Case Keenum did little to quiet his detractors and the steady calls for first-round pick Dwayne Haskins after the first of his three interceptions was returned for a touchdown in a 31-15 loss to Chicago on Monday.

ABOUT THE REDSKINS (0-3): The absence of Keenum on Wednesday led reporters to ask if Haskins would make his debut versus New York, but the former shed his walking boot and returned to practice the next day. "That's the plan right now. Unless he has a setback right now," Washington coach Jay Gruden said of Keenum drawing the start against the Giants. "Dwayne got to get some rep in there and Colt McCoy got a few with the scout team. It was good to see them all work." Three second-quarter touchdowns put the Redskins in a sizable hole versus the Bears, thus taking the ball out of the hands of Adrian Peterson and into those of versatile Chris Thompson (108 scrimmage yards). Rookie Terry McLaurin became the first player in NFL history to record at least five receptions and a touchdown catch in each of his first three career games and faces a Giants' 32nd-ranked pass defense that has yielded 332.3 yards per contest.

ABOUT THE GIANTS (1-2): Third-year running back Wayne Gallman will be tasked with shouldering the load in place of Barkley, who reportedly is expected to be sidelined four-to-six weeks after sustaining a high-ankle sprain against the Buccaneers. "It's unfortunate for my brother to go out, but this is what I've prepared for, so I'm ready for it," said the 24-year-old Gallman, who rushed for 13 yards on five carries last week. Evan Engram certainly has been ready, recording 271 receiving yards for the most by a Giants tight end in the first three games of a season since Mark Bavaro had 283 in 1996. Wideout Sterling Shepard returned from a one-game absence (concussion) to lead the team in targets (nine) and receptions (seven) versus Tampa Bay.

EXTRA POINTS

1. Washington S Landon Collins will play in his first game versus New York, with which he spent four seasons and was an All-Pro in 2016.

2. The Giants' minus-5 turnover differential is 31st in the league, just ahead of winless Miami (minus-6).

3. Washington LB Ryan Kerrigan has collected 6.5 sacks in his past four games against New York.

PREDICTION: Giants 24, Redskins 23
