Seattle @ Los Angeles preview

Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum

Last Meeting ( Oct 7, 2018 ) L.A. Rams 33, Seattle 31

The Los Angeles Rams attempt to complete a sweep of the two-game season series when they host the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. The Rams scored the game's final nine points to record a 33-31 win in Seattle in the first meeting on Oct. 7.

Los Angeles is trying to rebound from its first loss of the season as its eight-game winning streak was halted by New Orleans in a 45-35 shootout last Sunday. “Getting through that loss and then moving on happened pretty quickly," Rams quarterback Jared Goff told reporters. "So I don't think we're still dwelling on that by any means. It's a big division game for us.” The game also is highly important for the Seahawks, who don't have much chance of catching the Rams in the NFC West but certainly are in the middle of the wild-card hunt. "We had a chance to win the game," quarterback Russell Wilson told reporters regarding the first meeting with Los Angeles. "For us, we had a few mishaps at the end of the game that got us out of field-goal range. I think that's what it comes down to - execution."

ABOUT THE SEAHAWKS (4-4): Wilson has avoided the costly mistakes with only five interceptions and has thrown 11 of his 18 touchdown passes over the last four games. Seattle accumulated 190 yards on the ground in the earlier loss to the Rams, but leading rusher Chris Carson (497 yards) appears unlikely to play due to a hip injury after carving up Los Angeles' defense for a career-best 116. Defensive end Frank Clark has recorded a team-high 7.5 sacks as one of the top players on a unit that is tied for seventh in scoring defense (19.5 points) and fifth in total defense (333.3 yards).

ABOUT THE RAMS (8-1): Goff has thrown 20 touchdown passes and ranks second in passing yardage (2,816) while star running back Todd Gurley is the league leader in yardage (868) and rushing scores (12). Los Angeles' defense was battered for 487 yards (346 passing, 141 rushing) by the Saints, and that performance didn't sit right with star defensive tackle Aaron Donald (second in the NFL with 10 sacks). "We tried to do too much at times," Donald told reporters. "That’s a part of the game, but we corrected those things, we fixed those things and it’s not going to happen again.”

EXTRA POINTS

1. The Rams have averaged 37.5 points while winning each of the last two meetings.

2. Los Angeles WR Brandin Cooks had eight receptions for 114 yards against New Orleans for his third 100-yard performance of the season.

3. Seattle RG D.J. Fluker (calf) is unlikely to play after being hurt in last Sunday's game against the Chargers.

PREDICTION: Rams 38, Seahawks 31
