Della Maddalena vs Emeev betting preview

After an impressive run on UFC’s Contender series and a strong showing at UFC 270, Della Maddalena is poised to be a star in the deep welterweight division. Ten of his 11 wins have come inside the distance, which is boosted by a fan-friendly style that emphasizes heavy volume and punishing strikes.

The recent win against Pete Rodriguez was impressive, and he hopes to build on that against a durable opponent.

He lands a stunning 8.4 significant strikes per minute with 49% accuracy, making him a terror in the standup game. His high volume can leave him open during exchanges but he can dig in and land debilitating shots to close up shop early.

That said, Della Maddalena is going to have his work cut out for him with Emeev. The Russian is a walking fortress who absorbs an incredible low 2.02 strikes per minute with a defense rate of 66%. On top of that, Emeev has a great chin, solid conditioning, and a knack to pursue takedowns.

Against a veteran specializing in the long game, he risks punching himself out or getting frustrated by his lack of success. If Emeev can get in position to disrupt the Australian’s offense, he could stifle him long enough to make things very interesting down the stretch.

It’s a typical grit vs. grind matchup. With the expectations rising for Della Maddalena, it’ll be interesting to see how he handles such a unique opponent.

Della Maddalena vs Emeev UFC prediction and best bet

Our prediction is compiled from the analysis of the fighters and is an indication of who we are leaning with to win this bout.
Our best bet is the play that we like the most for this fight or where the most value lies, and is where we would put some of our bankroll behind.

While the UFC may want to start tuning up the band for Della Maddalena, oddsmakers state that he isn’t going to run away with this one. Emeev is the best opponent the prodigious brawler has faced, and not even he is a legitimate contender in the division. To clarify, Emeev is a truth maker, not a doormat.

A stern test awaits as Emeev is a defensive specialist that can neutralize Della Maddalena’s business. To steal the fight, Emeev must outpace him and find a way to take him down and control him on the mat. Even if Emeev can slow the pace, his offensive output and style are so conservative that it will be hard for judges to score against Della Maddalena’s activity.

That passiveness will be his undoing, along with the Australian's formidable takedown defense. He might not look good doing it, but Della Maddalena will shine in spots as Emeev tries to maul him on the inside.

This is all part of the process for the emerging talent, and we believe that he’s going to come out on top with a win Saturday night.

Prediction: Della Maddalena moneyline (-166 at FanDuel)

Considering Emeev’s durability and the step-up in class, picking the Aussie by decision is the right choice at +180 but he’s going to aim for a stoppage. In the fights where Emeev can’t get his opponents to the ground and is out-landed in the stand-up, he comes up short.

Bolstered by his opponent's lack of power and ability to keep the fighting limited to stand up, Della Maddalena should struggle to solve Emeev early but will get to him.

Bettors won’t be faulted for rolling the dice for a +300 prop for the stoppage but we’ll be happy to take the +180 for Della Maddalena to win on points.

Pick: Della Maddalena by points (+180 at FanDuel)
