Nickal vs Brundage picks
Fight prediction: Bo Nickal ML
I am not betting Nickal’s moneyline at –1,600, but in terms of predicting a winner in this fight, we must go with Nickal once again as the UFC continues to give him lay-up matchups in order to build up one of their biggest prospects.
Nickal has blown through everyone since joining the UFC via Dana White’s Contender Series in the summer of 2022. Under this promotion, he is 4-0 with four straight first-round finishes.
Meanwhile, Brundage’s journey has not been nearly as smooth. The 29-year-old middleweight is just 4-5 through nine fights under the UFC umbrella, and one of those wins has an asterisk as Brundage won via DQ after Jacob Malkoun struck the back of his head. Before the illegal blow, Malkoun was dominating that fight.
Brundage can lose by any method, which doesn’t bode well for the massive underdog. We have seen him get starched, lose by TKO in the clinch, tap, and get out-wrestled to unanimous decision losses.
You can beat Brundage by any method, and Nickal has worked hard on his boxing and jiu-jitsu to complement his all-world wrestling.
Prediction: Bo Nickal moneyline (-1,600 at Bet99)
Fight best bet: Bo Nickal to win by KO/TKO
While –1,600 is an unplayable number, there are two ways to back Nickal. Oddsmakers are expecting another quick outing for the rising prospect, as Nickal is listed at –230 to win in Round 1.
So, will it be by KO/TKO (+135) or submission (-115)? That is the real betting question in this fight, and I think there is more value in the KO/TKO line.
Brundage’s chin has proven faulty, given that he’s lost both by consistent damage as well as a one-strike finish in his loss to Michal Oleksiejczuk in 2022. He has also tapped, but two of his three losses inside the distance have come by KO/TKO.
On the other hand, Nickal is coming off a first-round knockout over Val Woodburn, as his power was demonstrated in just under a minute of work. As mentioned above, Nickal has been working extremely hard at the well-roundedness of his game as he looks to transition from championship wrestler to championship mixed martial artist, and his striking continues to improve.
Nickal will be the bigger guy in this fight, and his power should be enough to put Brundage away early.
Pick: Bo Nickal to win by KO/TKO (+135 at Bet99)
Nickal vs Brundage betting preview
Nickal once again finds himself as a massive favorite at –1,600. He has closed at that number or higher in all four of his UFC bouts, with all four of those fights ending with a first-round finish.
Meanwhile, Brundage has closed as the underdog in seven of his past eight fights. He is 4-4 over that stretch and would likely be 3-5 if Malkoun had not struck the back of his head.
Nickal is –700 to win this fight inside the distance, but that remains a difficult number to lay. If you like Nickal, the real question is whether he will win by submission or KO/TKO.
