UFC 308: Lerone Murphy vs Dan Ige Odds, Picks & Predictions

Dan Ige has long been an effective gatekeeper for up-and-coming fighters, serving as a bit of a proving ground. Lerone Murphy will do just that as he takes his next step up the UFC ladder.

Lerone Murphy vs. Dan Ige is a featherweight bout and one of our featured attractions on the UFC 308 undercard.

With Murphy in striking distance of breaking into the division’s Top 10, he faces a veteran in Ige who hopes to keep his own fading hopes of a big fight alive.

UFC odds have Murphy as a -280 favorite, and Ige is a +215 underdog. Here are my best free UFC 308: Murphy vs. Ige predictions from the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.

Murphy vs Ige prediction and pick

Fight analysis

Ask anyone who the next big star at featherweight might be, and they're probably going to say it's Lerone Murphy. His striking is crisp, his technique is solid, and he just picked Edson Barboza apart to prove it’s not all for show.

If anyone wants to be someone at featherweight, they’re going to have to face Ige eventually, and this should be the right test for the rising Brit.

Murphy will put his striking skills to the test against one of the best technical strikers in the division. That said, Ige is on a bit of a cold streak, losing five of his last eight fights. While he’s undeniably tough and always brings the fight, consistency has never been his strong suit. We’ve seen Ige do what he can to stay relevant by beating up-and-coming fighters, but he’s consistently hit his ceiling against top competition like Calvin Kattar and, most recently, Diego Lopes (though that fight was on short notice).

Toughness is Ige’s best weapon, but I firmly believe Murphy is beyond the point where toughness alone can beat him.

Murphy’s speed allows him to dart in and out of range, flurry, and reset. He’s landing over five significant strikes per minute with 54% accuracy while defending 60% of those coming his way, and Ige tends to take one to land one. Murphy’s biggest weakness has been his susceptibility to takedowns, and he hasn’t shown great ground defense, but that won’t be a concern against Ige.

While we can’t count Ige out, Murphy is at a better stage in his career right now, and Ige won’t be able to handle his speed. Expect Murphy to pick up another win against a respected veteran, breaking into the top 10 and positioning himself for a big fight in 2025.

Best best analysis

Ige's toughness will serve him by being able to take Murphy's best shots and staying in position to fight back. Ige has supreme conditioning and is notoriously difficult to finish, something nobody in the UFC has been able to do in his seven years with the promotion. Murphy is a good-looking fighter, but like Ige, his fights are won on volume and on the scorecards.

My best bet for the fight is Murphy to win by decision.
