UFC Fight Night Dos Anjos vs Fiziev Picks and Predictions: Back Where He Belongs

After an ill-fated move to welterweight, Rafael dos Anjos is back at lightweight and proving once again how much of a threat he is. He may be the UFC betting underdog for Fight Night, but our picks like his chances against Rafael Fiziev.

Dos Anjos vs Fiziev betting preview

Rafael dos Anjos is the No. 7 ranked lightweight contender and has won back-to-back fights, most recently defeating Renato Moicano by unanimous decision in March. The 37-year-old has enjoyed an extremely successful UFC career, claiming the 155-pound title in 2015 and successfully defending it once before dropping bouts to Eddie Alvarez and Tony Ferguson.

After losing to Ferguson, RDA moved up to welterweight, where he went 4-4 with decision losses against the top fighters in that division including Kamaru Usman, Colby Covington, and Leon Edwards. He has bounced back since returning to lightweight, edging Paul Felder by a split decision and then dominating Moicano after a 16-month layoff.

Dos Anjos is a very well-rounded fighter that combines high-volume striking with solid wrestling and high-end BJJ skills.

Rafael "Ataman" Fiziev is three spots behind RDA in the lightweight rankings and is coming off a highlight-reel spinning wheel kick knockout of Brad Riddell in December.

Fiziev was knocked out in the first round in his UFC debut against Magomed Mustafaev in 2019. Since that defeat, he has reeled off five-straight wins, earning a Fight of the Night or Performance of the Night bonus in each of his past four bouts.

The 29-year-old used to be a professional Muay Thai fighter and prefers to keep things standing up. He's an excellent kickboxer with explosive striking and terrific defensive movement.

Dos Anjos vs Fiziev UFC prediction and best bet

Our prediction is compiled from the analysis of the fighters and is an indication of who we are leaning with to win this bout.
Our best bet is the play that we like the most for this fight or where the most value lies, and is where we would put some of our bankroll behind.

Fiziev is an extremely dangerous striker and he might be a tad too fast in the striking exchanges for RDA. That said, dos Anjos is the more well-rounded fighter and should be able to grind down Fiziev with his superior wrestling and grappling ability.

While Ataman has terrific takedown defense, dos Anjos doesn't necessarily need to take down his opponents in order to implement his wrestling since he's so effective against the cage.

He's also no slouch in the striking department himself, with the ability to attack the body out of his southpaw stance.

The other reason we're siding with the dog in this bout is that RDA is no stranger to five-round bouts, with seven of his last 11 fights going the full 25 minutes. Fiziev has never fought more than 15 minutes and he faded in the third round against Bobby Green last year.

Prediction: Rafael Dos Anjos moneyline (+186 at FanDuel)

These guys were originally scheduled to fight in February and when odds originally hit the board for that tilt, dos Anjos was a slim +108 underdog despite not having fought since November of 2020.

Money poured in on Fiziev, which makes RDA a very tempting play at +186, now that we've seen him dismantle Moicano and prove that ring rust hasn't set in.

Dos Anjos' stock dropped a bit after going 4-4 at welterweight but those defeats came against the cream of the crop in the division. RDA was simply not big or strong enough to handle those guys, but he's always been very competitive at 155 and shouldn't be overlooked in this one.
