Kramer's December 2013 NCAAB Thread

Sunday 12/8/13

St. Mary's -14 (bought the hook): No Matthew Dellavadova, no problem as this year's Gaels have really gotten into a groove quickly....they have put up double digits wins over decent mid-major squads like Akron, Louisiana Tech, & Murray St....they should have no problem with a middle of the pack Big Sky team who comes in at 5-2 but 2 of their victories have been over D-II schools....St. Mary's has a much better defense, is much deeper, & has a big edge in team FT% which helps at the end of these games covering spreads when the foul fest begins

I felt like I really needed that one after a weak December start.

Nothing for tonite as I don't like either game....back at it tomorrow!

Tuesday 12/10/13

Illinois -16: This will be one of two plays that if the BCS school plays to their strengths and doesn't take the foot off the gas they should house their small school opponent....Rayvonte Rice is becoming a major factor since transferring from my alma mater Drake....I knew he was going to be special a few years ago and I feel he's on his way to being 2nd or 3rd team All Big 10 this season....the Illini backcourt should dominate here with Abrams & Bertrand....overall they have the advantage in nearly every statistical category (especially FT %) & have played a much tougher schedule so far....very heavy public play but I like the Illini by 20-25 here

Minnesota -16: Another BCS school vs. a little guy....SDSU had their mid-major run but without Nate Wolters this is a much different team....remember even the team WITH Nate Wolters last year lost there in Minneapolis by 24....Minnesota again leads all statistical categories in this matchup, is much deeper, & I believe will be back at full strength with Elliason & Walker playing together up front for the first time in a week or so....again I'd say the Golphers by 20-25

Gonzaga -2 (bought the hook): I think this is one of those games where you're supposed to say West Virginia is like ridiculously good in Morgantown the past few years & that Huggins always wins tight games at home....this season I'm not buying it....this is Huggins's least talented squad in a long time....there's no Devin Ebanks, DaSean Butler, Joe Alexander, or Mike Gansey to score 20-25 points and lead the charge....I know it's Gonzaga's 1st true road game but I'm giving the better shooting, deeper, more experienced Bulldogs the edge here

Davidson -5.5: The Wildcats started this season slow and I faded them early due to the loss in personel they had from last year and the injury to this year's leading scorer De'Mon Brooks....but this team has really gelled into a decent squad as Kalinoski, Droney, Sullivan, & Czerapowicz have all stepped up during their 3-game win streak....meanwhile Niagara comes in to this contest 2-8 and led by the nation's top scorer Antoine Mason....trouble is they have no secondary guy, they have very little frontcourt to speak of, and are an awful 3-pt shooting team....I give this one to Davidson in this neutral court contest by 12-15

Notre Dame -7: I think Vegas has finally given the Irish a spread low enough to cover....ND has tripped up against small schools as of late but this game to me has the feel of a 15-20 point blowout as NDSU has lost on the road at St. Mary's & at North Dakota by double digits in the past 3 weeks....the Irish have a decent advantage in rebounds & 3-point % here and hold an edge in scoring OFF & DEF in this matchup....I hate this term but this just has "bounce back game" written all over it

Not many games today & tomorrow as it's finals week for most colleges....gonna take these next 2 days to refocus & re-energize....sorry about this cold streak guys....I play ALL of my picks so I feel it too
