@Drew61
What kind of response is that moron
Every bettor has hit bottom at one point in time. If they haven't then they will at some point. We've all lost more than we should in hopes of riches. Losing a 2 week paycheck is not that bad. Losing your savings and your check then your family and kids too is rock bottom. I could've owned a house by now in losses. I told myself I wont ever again yet here I am going on a year+ strong down overall no thanks to poor discipline and management AGAIN. Good luck

I don't know how your personality is but losing money is stress and if you can't manage stress well it will only affect your relationships with your kid and spouse or gf. A bad beat could turn into a bad beating for your kid if you're a dick like Drew

I don't know you but perhaps you might want to consider going to a GA (Gamblers Anonymous) meeting or three to see how far you've fallen and steps needed to pull yourself back up.
I hope you clear/cure what ails you and get your family life back together.

if you're planning to walk away, going on here doesnt help. I've won alot but also lost alot gambling since i was 17. if you're playing with your rent or food money, then you need to really do it and not just say it

@davemsh
Dave is right how many times I said to myself I need to get help. I even went to two gamblers, anonymous meetings, and believe it or not there was like one person there made me feel like more of a degenerate. I’ve lost my car. I’ve hit rock bottom, but somehow someway I’ve always hustled, I’ve always had these side gigs that made me a ton of money. I put my kids through school private schools college and I managed to pay off my house how I don’t know but I can honestly tell you that since I’ve been gambling I probably lost about $600,000 if not more over 40 years , I wish I never started if you’re just starting you should find a way to quit

Ugh. Tough to hear. Step 1 is take a day off (easy if you dont have money).....so I mean next time you get paid. Dont even get on your phone. Dont look at scores at all. Step 2 is take another day off. Im not gonna tell you you can beat the addiction, because you probably can't. What I will tell you is you can feed the demon without starving yourself. Set a limit and be strict. It doesn't matter how much you bet, its just that you bet. Theres no amount you can win that would make you stop gambling. The action is the addiction, not the amount of money. So set a small amount aside thats solely for gambling. Make it part of your budget. Dont be ashamed you like to wager, man up and tame the beast. You can do this.

My advice would be narrow your choices and the amount per bet. You'll never make back what you've lost.
Sports books are profitable for a reason.
Everyone needs a vice (gambling , eating, drugs/alcohol, shopping etc) how destructive it is determines everything.

It’s a rough one and gambling is very black and white. Unfortunately they both can be very dark. Learn from this experience and either stop all together or pick a system that works and stay within it and stay disciplined. Bet an amount that you’re willing to lose once the bet is placed without regret. Use a system that wins more than it loses and stay disciplined. My worst bets came when I chased, went outside my system or thought it was easy with everything pointing that way.
One thing I have to come understand is that you are going to lose on every single type of bet regardless of all the research, patience, understanding and reverence in ethics. Wacky stuff happens and it is gut wrenching when you are hit with harsh realities that you have to keep secret, which poses a problem.
Take care of yourself, take steps forward and don’t ever do that again. Take small steps to achieve bigger goals.
Rough one! Take care all.

There was a piece on 60mins about how Sports gambling is destroying lives especially with all the Apps now. If you really think that you will make a living betting sports then you are living in a fantasy world. There is no way you can make money on a consistent basis. I've seen people who have lost Millions betting sports. If you can't afford to play then Don't!!!

@SPark1
The average single family home in America is $420K... Are you saying that's how much you've lost?
OR, are you saying that you've lost about 20% of that, which would be a down payment to purchase that home?

I'm 58 years old and have been gambling for over 35 years. I have been exactly where you are. We all have. It sucks, but you must keep your head up and pressing forward. I know if I had never gambled a day in my life, I would have a much larger saving account than I do. But it is what I like to do for entertainment and being a sports junkie, it is my vice. I dont drink, do drugs or chase women. I'm happily married and have 3 wonderful kids, all married and on their own. Here's my advise:
1. Be the best dad you can be at all times. If married, be the best husband you can be to your wife. Stay balanced between your spiritual life, your love life, your work and your play time (gambling).
2. Work smarter at your day job. Who knows, maybe one day you will own your own electrical company and make enough money to enjoy the hobby (gambling) the way it should be without the risk of financial ruin.
3. Find side gigs to make more money on the side. Or there are numerous opportunities online, but figure out a way to make a side income, one that can be your play money and not your rent money. I work full time in an industry that I have now been in for over 25 years. I also have a construction company that I started 20 years ago and do both small and large jobs. I have the right people in place (my brother manages the company for me) and I make a great six figure side income from this business. I spend very little time physically working this business and still maintain my full time employment. And I am always looking for other opportunities. But it has taken me 30+ years to get here.
4. Don't ever do anything illegal to pay a gambling debt. Your troubles will only become larger.
5. Try to set a budget, don't lose more than you can afford to and ALWAYS take your winnings. When you get on a hot streak and I have seen some of yours in the NBA, take those winnings and put them back in your account. Don't give those back back. If your average bet is $100, don't raise it to $500 because you won 5 games in a row. I am not trying to brag, just making a point, but I made over $300,000 last year and my average bet size is $200. And I bet a couple of games a day if that. I always look to see who you got in the NBA :) Stay within your means. Lower your bet size to $50, not $500. I played in a poker tournament last night and won $6,500. Some guys would take that and go play money games or put a large wager on a game today. WHY? It will be in my account tomorrow morning. If I hit, I always take my winnings and if I loose, I never chase. You will have winning streaks and losing streaks. When winning, ride out it and when loosing, take a week off. But you should have a steady list of by deposits and withdrawals from your sports account to your bank account or you are not doing something right.
I wish you nothing but the best moving forward!

You have only one option staring you in the mirror if you want to have a decent quality of life,,,quit gambling on sports, tell your wife/girlfriend/partner/close trusted friends/parents exactly what you did regarding how you lost your paycheck, tell them this isnt the first time this has happpened, tell them you have come to a point in your life that you genuinely want to stop and change the direction of your life, find an online GA meeting immediately, and find a therapist to talk through your issues...gambling your entire paycheck the moment you got it is a classic sign of problem gambling, and you are very likely using it as an escape from dealing with some sort of deep rooted trauma or pain that you are not capable of dealing with on your own.
Also, if you currently have "friends that bet" or enable your gambling addiction, you need to cut them out of your life immediately, or at least tell them you're done and their continued friendships will no longer include sports.
This thread is your subconscious attempt at a cry for help...there's a few guys here that have offered you some great life changing advice, however as is alway the case with threads like these, the majority of people here have given you terrible advice because they are all lifelong loser degens, with DaveTheMush being the perfect example,,,you need to log off of covers, never browse this place again, take a very long pause on following ALL sports, completely detach yourself from all gambling triggers such as following scores, listening to sports talk shows, watching live sports events, etc. You must replace all this lost and wasted time with healthy, self improvement activities that are purely focused on your recovery from this disease of the mind.
You have a son, that's your only saving grace out of the world of chaos which you have created for yourself. Dive head first into father's and men support groups which are easily found online, become a more present dad and leave all sports in the past...become a mentor coach for your son, do all sorts of sports with him, get him off the iPad and immerse yourself in tapping into his athletic abilities and pursuing his favorite activities with you right by his side cheering him on.
You have a lucrative career at your fingertips. Focus on being the best skilled tradesman in your field. When your fully done with all electrical learning, take up another trade like HVAC, or Plumbing, or Stonemasonry, just keep growing within your business and you will acquire the type of wealth you could only dream of when you are in your 40s and beyond.
Guys in their 20s are meant for fucking up but learning from their mistakes. Guys in their 30s who have their shit together almost always hit their goals and set themselves up for a successful life. This is your moment, this is your crossroads for ultimate sustained success or tragic longterm failure.
The choice is 100% up to you...my advice is genuine, true, and there is no other alternative for you to have a normal sane life and continue to gamble on sports.
Bookmark this post, it might have just literally changed your life.
Good luck, your immediate future will not be easy, but nothing worth having is...always put yourself second, your young innocent son first, and then go from there when making any important life decision.
BTW, if you want to PM me in private, I'll be happy to support you & your recovery process.
