On paper it looks like JAYHAWKS should be able to hang with Texas in Austin this week close enough to cover +17..... I am not so sure

Michigan State University (MSU) FIRED head football coach Mel Tucker on Wednesday amid accusations of sexual harassment.

The move comes after USA Today first reported Tucker was under investigation for alleged sexual harassment, leading the university to suspend him without pay.

“The university terminated Tucker’s contract
for his admitted and undisputed behaviors
which have brought public disrespect, contempt
and ridicule upon the university; and constitute
a material breach of his agreement, and
moral turpitude,” said MSU.

 So I assume then you are passing on this game?  I contemplated that too.  But there's a compelling case to be made in this one, imo. I'm looking only for a straight up win, and it doesn't need to be pretty.  I have HAWKEYES rated in the upper end of my 2nd tier of teams while SPARTY is rated only dead center of my 3rd tier of teams.  Thus HAWKEYES are -12.5 favs for a reason, much more than merely being a home team.  While SPARTY began the season with two routs of soft teams,their last two games THEY GOT ROUTED by good teams: Washington and Maryland. I have Maryland rated right beside the HAWKEYES. Sparty lost to them by 22 points and that was on their home field. In fact Sparty has played the first 4 games all in the safe confines of Spartan Stadium.  Now they are in hostile territory against a team rated virtually the same as Maryland. Except, now without their HC.  He was fired yesterday, unrelated to team performance. I expect a smallish letdown.

Meanwhile, two keys in the HAWKEYES resume to date that I focussed on. In their in-state rivalry game, the play was basically even and they won by 7 ON THE ROAD. Had the venue been in Iowa City I would expect a larger margin win. And I have IOWA STATE rated right beside SPARTY. Then there was the utterly embarrassing beatdown playing at Penn State last week.  No shame in losing to a top 5 rated team ON THE ROAD though, but HAWKEYES performance  was CLEARLY a "one-off" --  only 4 first downs for 76 yards and a whopping net of 4 lost fumbles.  Whereas Illinois - not rated as high as IOWA - managed 383 yards on Penn State and even Delaware managed 140! Now back home, after an embarrassing "one-off" I expect a huge rebound of effort and results.  Also Cade McNamara who was expected to be a solid performer for them has only been mediocre thus far, especially the past two weeks.  He's better than this, and I expect he is due for a good performance, now back home, facing an opponent no better than Iowa State.

Consider that VOLUNTEERS have routed 3 weaklings.

But the one time they faced a quality opponent, GATORS, they were beaten by 13, two weeks ago.

Also thinking about going with NAVY su at home in what I have rated as two equal opponents

Consider that NAVY came within a whisker of upsetting MEMPHIS last game, ON THE ROAD!

USF isn't a BAD team by any means - they are rated about the same as NAVY, but for worse than MEMPHIS!

We shouldn't put too much into Hilltoppers narrow 3 pt loss last game at TROY.

Hilltoppers were BADLY OUTPLAYED despite benefitting from +50 net yards in pens and an extra turnover in their favor. a 14 pt loss would have been more reflective of the level of play...

And while MTSU lost by 7 at home to Colorado State, they actually edged the RAMS in play, and a tie would have been more indicative of the result.
